our expert's take

What Is the 2023 Dodge Charger?

The Dodge Charger is a full-size sedan with seating for five and a spacious trunk. The base Charger comes with a 300-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 engine and eight-speed automatic transmission, with a choice of rear- or all-wheel drive. V-8 Chargers come only with rear-wheel drive, but there’s a choice of five engines: a 370-hp, 5.7-liter V-8; a 485-hp, 6.4-liter V-8; and a supercharged Hellcat 6.2-liter V-8 in 717-, 797-  and 807-hp versions.

Several of the Charger’s four-door competitors have been discontinued in recent years, but the Cadillac CT5 and Kia Stinger remain as appropriate rivals. The Charger’s performance-oriented two-door competitors include the Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang muscle cars, along with Dodge’s own Challenger coupe. Want to bring the kids along for some tire-burning fun? See how the Charger fared in our Car Seat Check.

What’s New on the 2023 Dodge Charger?

This is the final model year for the current-generation Charger; it will be discontinued after 2023. As a send-off, Dodge is introducing seven Last Call special-edition models throughout the model year and bringing back retro paint colors like Plum Crazy purple, Sublime green and B5 Blue. Every 2023 Charger comes with a “Last Call” plaque under its hood.

What Features in the 2023 Dodge Charger Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • 7-inch touchscreen multimedia system
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity
  • Four USB ports
  • Satellite radio
  • Remote start
  • Keyless entry
  • LED headlights
  • Power-adjustable front seats
  • Rear parking sensors

Available features include:

  • 8.4-inch touchscreen
  • Navigation
  • Widebody fender flares
  • Heated and ventilated front seats
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Leather seating
  • Brembo brakes
  • Adaptive suspension
  • Forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking
  • Lane departure steering assist
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Automatic high-beam headlights

Should I Buy the 2023 Dodge Charger?

The 2023 Dodge Charger is a broad-shouldered American sedan that delivers big when it comes to cabin space and cargo room. When fitted with one of the optional supercharged Hellcat V-8s, this Dodge is also one of the fastest four-doors on the planet. While this iteration of the Charger has been around for roughly a decade and is due for replacement, the old-school charm and driving appeal of this outgoing version will not be soon forgotten. Dodge’s next-generation muscle cars, which are slated to debut in the near future, will have electrified powertrains.

I am so glad I decided to get a Charger in 2015.

I am so glad I decided to get a Charger in 2015. I now have a 2023 Daytona and LOVE it. Beautiful and fun to drive. Only problem is there is no spare tire, just basically a fix a flat kit.
