Piles of Fun to drive!

I recently bought a 2008 Chevy Cobalt used with 60,000 miles on it. This car vastly exceeds my expectations of economy car performance! The leather seats are incredibly comfortable for long and short rides and the car has a fantastic turning radius. The cobalt practically eliminates all parking difficulties even in the most cramped of spaces. The manual gears are very forgiving and allow for sudden slow downs without major issue. Also, the 2 side back seats (while a bit hard to get into) have ample legroom for adults. The sound system is very good and creates an excellent listening experience (none of the tinny sound common to most cars) The only negative things are: the car is very noisy, especially in the rear seats and, the gearshift is a bit far back (it knocks my elbow when I use it). I would absoulutely recommend the cobalt to anyone looking for an economy car that provides a fun-to-drive experience both in the city and on the highway. It never feels underpowered and turns like a dream.

2008 cobalt issues

i purchased a 2008 cobalt that came off lease after 2 years with 26000 miles and gm certified. i payed $11690 out the door , while the car has been reliable for 40000 miles we have driven it, multiple issues have occured during our ownership. first the passenger side headlight lens would leak thus turnsignal light would go out then auto locks began unlocking and locking while driving ,then chrome began to peel off of interior door latch then interior door latch broke had to put window down reach out to openn door!then car began shaking hard when braking sway bar links wore out at 60,000 miles! now power steering column makes sounds when turning car sharply we understand that plastic gears in column wear out $800 repair gm knows of issues will not help with repairing all are common with cobalt we are just crossing our fingers till trade in on new car will not be a chevrolet we stood by chevy and bought this during their tough times they did not stand by us.ive always drove chevys will not buy another one from chevy ever

Needed Improvement

Bought a Cobalt 2008 LT Coupe 5 Speed Manual used in September 2009 with 11000 miles on it and about 47000 on now. Purchased it for the Gas mileage. Have to say it gets great gas mileage averaging around 40mpg. It is also great in snow. Although I have had many problems with it. This car is very uncomfortable to drive. I am about 5'11" 210lbs and it "hurts" to drive. I used to work retail about 20 miles from home so standing all day, then driving home was very uncomfortable. No leg room and hard seats. I have had many problems fixed under warranty and some that still exsist since the warranty ran out. Will be getting rid of this car when I can pay it off.

Great Car

Found this Cobalt to be very nice looking and reliable. Great on gas and maintenance. Very roomy in front OK in back. As with all compact cars ride is a little bumpy but overall sporty action on handling.

Questionable quality

Having driven GM cars exclusively my whole life, I have driven many different cars. These cobalts are pure junk. I hate to admit it since I'm a GM fanatic but they are junk. My car has had front end clunking problems that can't be resolved, transmission was rebuilt with 20,000 miles and it is full of interior rattles. The only good things about this car are the 2.2 ecotec and some other useful features like the driver information center and a cold air conditioner. For a 3 year old car it has had way too many problems and they are only getting worse. I'll say this next thing for anyone looking at buying a cobalt, they have horrible suspensions that will start clunking, rattling, and do all sorts of weird things. It's a safety hazard and GM won't do anything to help us owners out. Poor quality car. Poor quality company IMO.

Nice, but rough ride.

I have had the 2008 Cobalt Sport since June of 08. I love it for its sporty look and bells and whistles (heated leather, sun roof, etc.) BUT it rides terribly! It's bumpy and rattly and not a smooth ride at all. A little bump feels like a HUGE crater. Fast and sleek, but rough and bumpy!
