It's not a unique practice but they're very cleaver about how they sneak it in. During the negotiation for a car the dealer will slip in worthless insurances throughout the process. They break it down by a weekly cost and even daily to justify the expense. It's something you'll never use and a clever way for the dealer to make more money off you. They never really tell you the true cost of the worthless insurance until it's added to your costs during the financing part of your deal. At that point guess what??? The finance guy again tries to sell you even more insurance, through a third party (so they have no responsibility). There's a deductible, depreciation and even a claim will never add up to the cost of the insurance (which you'll never use) At no point will the dealer tell you you're spending $1,500 for nothing. Truly a generous donation to the dealer. They're not out to just sell you a car. Also, you first get shuffled in to an insurance broker. He lengthens the process that you're not there for and then you're shuffled in for the ultimate screwing with the finance guy. Merry Christmas. Enjoy your donation. Buyer beware.
