Bait and Switch

I wish I could give this dealership a great review, but after the expense to my credit, bank account, and hopes of purchasing a vehicle at a listed price, it is not meant to be. Please read on. The sales team member and service staff who assisted me were very responsive in my interest in a 2006 Ford Explorer they had for sale. It was listed at $6,348 and I originally inquired about the vehicle a full 7 days before posting this review. I live over 3 hours away, but was willing to travel and make arrangements for transport. I was told the vehicle could not be driven as it was undergoing repairs, but once repairs were complete, I could test drive and make the purchase. I called the dealership twice a day inquiring about the status of the repairs, ready to jump in my car and go purchase this vehicle for my daughter as they said there was so much interest in it. The sales person and service staff were great about providing me updates and keeping me informed. I spent $200 having a third party come out to look at the vehicle and assure me that it would be a good and safe purchase for my child. I took a hard check on my credit to be pre-approved for the financing needed to make the purchase. I was ready. And then I got the call. The repairs are done. But due to the repairs, which have been the same repairs that have been ongoing for the last week, THE PRICE IS NOW $5,000 MORE! To say I am disappointed is an understatement. The dealership knew what repairs were needed and how much they would cost as all of the work was done in-house. The repairs never changed over the entire week I called and I was never once told that the price would increase due to them. Add to that the fact that I took a hit to my excellent credit and spent, what to me, is quite a bit of money on an inspection AND their own website still lists the price at $6,348, I am beyond frustrated and angry. While the sales person and their manager were respectful and seemed understanding of my frustration, it simply cannot make up for the fact that my experience with this dealership is beyond egregious. It takes nothing to be honest up front, folks. Unfortunately, I cannot say you will get an honest deal or experience from Rock Hill Ford. Beware.

Dealer response

Thank you for your review, TRM. I'm sorry to hear that our team couldn’t meet your expectations regarding the 2006 Ford Explorer you were interested in. Unfortunately, during the initial repairs additional repair items arose that needed to be addressed. First and foremost, it is never our intention to leave a customer feeling ignored or uninformed. Our sales team works very hard to keep all customers updated on the status of their purchase, and we apologize if this was not the case in your situation. We have discussed the issue with our sales team that going forward they need to wait until all repairs are completed before discussing if a vehicle will potentially be available for sale. We are sure that you agree that the dealership should complete all required repairs for the safety of our customers. It is important that our vehicles are safe and reliable. We take pride in the quality of our repairs, and we're sorry that it took longer than expected for the vehicle to be ready. There is a lag time between when we change a price on a vehicle to reflect our cost and sales price before it populates on our website and third-party websites such as Cars.com. This was addressed immediately and at the time of this review the updated pricing has already been reflected. We do our best to keep our customers informed of any changes that may occur during the repair process, unfortunately in this instance we were not able to give a more accurate estimate until the work was completed. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We try our best to be upfront and honest with each customer and provide them with the best possible car buying experience. Our prices reflect the market value of the vehicle and we make sure to disclose all costs associated with a purchase before anything is finalized. If there's anything else we can do for you, please don't hesitate to reach out. We want every customer who visits Rock Hill Ford to have a positive experience, and we appreciate the opportunity to improve based on feedback like yours. – The Rock Hill Ford Team.
