Buyer Beware: Howdy Honda’s Exploitation of a Single

Buyer Beware: Howdy Honda’s Exploitation of a Single Mom As a single mom juggling the chaos of kids and daily life, I walked into Howdy Honda hoping for a reliable used car to get us through our busy days. What I got instead was a nightmare that left me stranded, ignored, and out hundreds of dollars—all thanks to a dealership that preyed on my trust and failed to deliver even the basics of decency or accountability. I purchased a used car from Howdy Honda, lured by the promise of a vehicle that would keep my family safe and mobile. The air conditioning worked when I test-drove it—a must for hauling kids in the Texas heat—and I trusted their assurances that it was in good shape. But the very next day, the AC died. Completely. My kids and I were left sweating it out, and I realized I’d been sold a lemon. A 2010 model, sure, but one they hadn’t bothered to properly inspect or maintain before pocketing my hard-earned money. I contacted Howdy Honda immediately, desperate for a fix. They promised repairs and took my car back, keeping it for five agonizing days. Five days of scrambling for rides, rearranging schedules, and worrying about how I’d manage without a vehicle. When I called for updates—nothing. No one answered. No one returned my voicemails. It was radio silence from a dealership that had been all smiles when I was signing the paperwork. Finally, they told me to come pick up my keys from a manager. I arrived, hopeful, only to find the manager couldn’t even be bothered to hand them over himself—he sent someone else out like I was an inconvenience. When I checked the car, my jaw dropped: no repairs had been done. None. The AC was still dead, and the vehicle was in the exact same sorry state I’d left it in. Furious, I marched back inside to demand answers. Their excuse? “You bought a 2010,” as if that absolved them of selling me a functional car. Then, the kicker: the manager had the gall to say, “You drove off with it,” implying it was my fault for believing their lies. No apology, no accountability—just a shrug and a smug dismissal. This wasn’t just a bad deal; it was a calculated move to take advantage of someone they thought wouldn’t fight back. A single mom with kids doesn’t have the luxury of time or money to waste on a dealership’s games, yet Howdy Honda didn’t care. They sold me an unsafe, unreliable car, wasted my time with empty promises, and treated me like dirt when I dared to ask why. The lack of communication was insulting—leaving me in the dark while they sat on my car doing nothing—but the outright dishonesty was what stung the most. Buyers beware: Howdy Honda isn’t just incompetent; they’re predatory. They’ll flash a smile, take your money, and leave you high and dry with a car that’s one hot day away from breaking down. If you’re a single parent, or anyone who values honesty and safety, steer clear. I learned the hard way that their “service” is a sham, and I wouldn’t wish this ordeal on my worst enemy.

Hello Ashlee, We sincerely apologize for the delay in communication and any frustration you experienced throughout this process. We understand how important it is to have a reliable vehicle, especially in the Texas heat, and we regret that you had such a negative experience. We would like to clarify that while we inspect all pre-owned vehicles before they are sold, used cars—especially older models—can sometimes develop unforeseen issues after purchase. Ultimately, it is up to each buyer to conduct thorough research and make an informed decision prior to purchasing any pre-owned vehicle. We appreciate you bringing your concerns to our attention and I'd be happy to speak with you directly so we can review your situation, provide clarity, and explore options. Best, Michael Martinez - Used Vehicle Manager - michaelmartinez@lithia.com

Rex is outstanding.

Rex is outstanding. He recently sold me a new 2025 CR-V. He was very helpful and genuinely warm and friendly. He arranged for me to drive it home to see if my handicapped husband could get in and out of it easily. It was perfect and I purchased the car. After driving it for a month, I became concerned of a possible steering issue and notified Rex. He immediately fit me in to repair and couldn't have been more accommodating. Fortunately, there was no issue after all. He installed my new plates, checked my windshield washer system, and off I went...a very satisfied and happy customer. ---Karen Gingrich, Dripping Springs

Needed headlight replaced but had no appointment.

Needed headlight replaced but had no appointment. Service tech, I think named Allisin, said she didn't want me to wait 2 hours. She told me to lesve the car there, go inside, buy new light and service manager could install right there. It took only 10 minutes and they didn't even charge me for labor. Amazing service! That's why they've been our dealer for 5 years

Very Unprofessional & Unethical Car Dealer!

Very Unprofessional & Unethical Car Dealer!!! I live in Central Texas but had got a quote from a dealer in San Antonio. I had shared there quote & Howdy Honda (Mr. Rex Flaczynski) had agreed to meet their price and had said that his manager had agreed to that. We had agreed on the Out of Door price and all of this was on txt message and clearly there was no miscommunication. Had selected the vehicle on the lot and when I there, to test drive, sign the papers and drive, they quoted $1200 more then the agreed price. I just walked out of that... didnt want to negotiate with them. I essentially didn't want to give them my business. I drove to Hill Country Honda, San Antonio and they honored the price quoted, signed and drove back. Very unpleased with HOWDY HONDA. NEVER AM I GOING TO THESE GIUYS.

Hello, I apologize for the experience you had and any miscommunication that occurred. It's disappointing to hear we didn't meet your expectations. We strive for transparency and fairness in all our dealings, so this feedback is concerning. We matched the discount from the quote given at the other dealership but our vehicle had more equipment. If you'd like to discuss further or have any other questions, please reach out at your convenience. We wish you the best moving forward! Thanks, Matt Cole 737-263-2796 mcole@howdyhonda.com General Sales Manager

Consumer response

Sorry Matt. I disagree. I have txt message as evidence. I shared with Rex, Hill Country Honda’s quote. They had the same/similar Dealer Added Options. In the txt message, I did spell out those options. I’m happy share those txt messages clearly showing what was agreed on the price. I guess, he just wanted me to come in and hoped I take the $1200 more price.

If you're reading this, you're likely contemplating

If you're reading this, you're likely contemplating servicing your vehicle at Howdy Honda. But before you make that decision, let me share with you a cautionary tale that might just change your mind. Picture this: You schedule an appointment for a routine maintenance check and a transmission diagnosis at Howdy Honda. You show up on the agreed-upon date, only to be turned away and told to come back the following week. Frustrating, right? But that's just the beginning. You're here because less than a month ago the tech mentioned a transmission leak when you got your oil changed. Fast forward an hour to a local auto shop, where you decide to seek assistance instead. What they uncover will shock you. That "transmission leak" you were concerned about? It turns out to be engine oil, not transmission fluid. And the reason? A drain plug in the oil pan, secured by only two threads, causing a significant loss of oil—two quarts, to be exact. The tech at Howdy Honda forgot to properly screw in your drain plug! Can you imagine the potential damage this oversight could have caused to your vehicle's engine? It's a chilling thought. So, dear reader, heed this warning: Do not entrust your vehicle to Howdy Honda. Their negligence and incompetence could cost you more than just money—it could cost you your car's engine. Instead, opt for trusted local mechanics who prioritize the safety and well-being of your vehicle.
