Do Not Trust Autosport

I bought a classic Mercedes Coupe-1971. I recently had a flat tire and found that these sneaks put a dangerous small off size spare in the trunk with a huge hole in the tire hiden face down, with good tread facing up. This was obviously intentional. The maagement simply is not to be trusted b/c they will cheat when it costs so little to do it right. BE FOREWARNED !!

Just don’t.

I have purchased two vehicles from Autosport, an Aston and a Range Rover. They do have quality vehicles. However, if you are purchasing from a distance, just don’t do business with them. They have a lackadaisical approach to your vehicle delivery once they have your money. Better to just stay away and deal with an organization that understands commitment to customer service. Im not sure if it’s their help or their leadership, but either way, I would never spend top dollar for a vehicle and have to deal with their lack of detail again. To many other great dealers available.

Great experience!

Bought two cars from them, a '66 E-Type in May 2019 and now an Evora GT (2/20). Both are fantastic cars. Had a great experience with Tom and his team. Would not hesitate to by another from Autosport Designs.

"Runs as it should" (not so much)

Over 2 years ago I purchased from autosport a 1967 Alfa Duetto. The tag line in the original add at that time was "runs the way it should". Well now over $12k later many months of down time at a local shop the car actually runs as it should. This $12k includes over $6k spent at autosport soon after I purchased the car. The car on purchase had worn brakes, deteriorated suspension, and was running on essentially 3 cylinders. The advice given to me at the time by Autosport from both the owner and service manager was the car needed a "Italian tune up" translated take it on the highway and beat it. The fallacy with this piece of advice was that the car could barely accelerate out of its own way. The local vintage repair shop (nationally known) told me the carburetors were completely set up wrong by Autosport with wrong parts, etc. I had also paid Autosport for work on my exhaust system which needed to be redone as well. This past spring I approached Autosport management about repurchasing the car and or marketing it for me, the new manager said they were interested, sorry I was disappointed, but around the time of my purchase and subsequent repairs they were experiencing difficulty with their repair shop and quality control. Suffice it to say I have not heard back from them now many months later despite promises they would follow up. I have been involved with vintage cars my entire life and have seen some real dishonesty in sales over the years, and I would put Autosport Design right there with the worst I've seen. Buyer beware...

WATCH OUT

Here is what my experience with Tom Papadopoulos was like. He has (present tense) a black Ferrari 599 for sale. I inquired about purchasing it. He went on and on about how everyone who contacts him is a jerk, wastes his time, etc. I simply listened to him and then tried to move on to discussing the car. When I raised the issue of getting a pre-purchase inspection performed, he got very evasive. Said he had no problem with it but his car was one of the finest specimens out there, and so forth. I told him I wouldn't purchase a house without an inspection nor would I purchase a pre-owned Ferrari without one. He resisted every step of the way. Then my power went out for 3 days during which I couldn't communicate with him. He said he understood and then tried to convince me again to forgo the pre-purchase inspection. As soon as I was in the process of confirming the day/time that would happen, he totally disappeared. When I inquired after a week, he called the whole thing a "sh*tshow", more or less threw a tantrum and claimed to have sold the car, which in fact remains unsold in his inventory and on all used car platforms. Obviously there is something wrong with the car, otherwise this could have been handled in a much different way on his part. Honestly, this guy seems like a liar and like a typical used car salesman. I was nothing but polite, professional and transparent with him. Btw, the PPI was going to cost me $1000 and he knew this so obviously I was (am) a serious buyer. Ultimately he will likely scam someone into buying this particular car without a PPI and I preeminently feel very badly for that person. I'd stay very far away from this guy. Read what others say about him in the Ferrari chat forums; frankly I should have my head checked for engaging him in the first place.

Dealer response

Hello LWM. Thank you for your review. As stated from the beginning of your original inquiry, Autosport Designs had absolutely no problem with you wanting a PPI on this Ferrari 599. We have been around for 30 years and have always been forthright with all of our clients and potential clients with exactly the vehicle and the condition of the vehicle they are inquiring on and purchasing. We have no interest in having a mediocre vehicle and our clients have trusted us over the years with providing them top level quality and service. I believe you were in discussions with a very reputable intermediary inspector (name redacted) for a proper PPI on this 599. As we were aware, this inspector sent you documents and an invoice in order to perform the PPI and never heard back from you. We understand that you may have been without power for a few days during this timetable. This inspector also notified us that you were trying to use him to PPI many other cars over the previous months and nothing ever came to fruition of moving forward with any PPI for any of the cars you were interested in, which to be fair, only begs the question, are you real or not. The reason we say this is due to the fact that you did not even pick up the phone once to have a conversation about the 599 or any subsequent questions about the condition, PPI, etc. It seems you only operate on a few different emails and had no intention of talking on the phone. Not too mention the foul-mouth child-like name-calling in your multiple emails to us. Maybe we are old-school, but we enjoy the education and actual relationship of meeting and speaking to all of our clients and making sure that this is the vehicle for them. Maybe we are out of the loop and the new millennial age is to only be able to communicate via email and text message about a serious purchase. And maybe in this new age, everyone would rather swipe their credit card at a vending machine and the car of their dreams gets delivered without having to accidentally speak to anybody for fear of social anxiety. Every past and present client and every vehicle we have sold, we have at least spoken to the buyer or potential buyer of the vehicle they were interested in. So forgive us, but it does seem rather interesting you hiding behind an email address to try and "buy" a car and continuing to hide and post a bad experience review instead of having an intelligent conversation over the phone and actually meeting you to discuss a 6-figure collectible Ferrari. Truth be told, the 599 we had was indeed an excellent example, otherwise we would never have it, as you may see from the high quality of all the other vehicles we have for sale. We encourage PPI's to be done on any used car for everyone's benefit, both buyer and seller. I guess the beauty of 2019 and social media is anybody without reason can slander anybody they like, simply for the small child-like mentality of not getting what they want. We are sorry you missed out on this excellent 599, it has indeed been sold. We would say lighten up a bit as it's just a 10 year old 599, but maybe no car is ever good enough for you. We certainly wish you well in finding your next vehicle.
