Purchased a car here for my teenager.
Purchased a car here for my teenager. The dealer explained that the engine had a tick, and that it was normal for these engines. We looked it up on the test drive and there was indeed a "normal" tick, but a more intermittent and loud tick could mean major known issues leading to engine failure. On the flat stretch of road suggested for the test drive, we judged it to be okay. We naively accepted his explanation and bought the car. On the way home, the check engine light came on, and the tick became a much more intrusive rattle, especially on acceleration. The engine code was a PB016, indicating crankshaft and/or camshaft timing problems. This is a precursor to the known engine failure. It is important to note that there was no history in the car's computer, suggesting the codes had been cleared. I reached out to the dealer to see if he knew anything about this or if the PB016 had shown up in their inspection. After several days, I have received NO response. With no attempt at reconciliation, we have to assume he knew the car had a bigger issue and explicitly covered it up. Minimally, Korz' idea of customer service extends only to prospective customers. One other anomaly - he explained that the previous owner listed on the title was actually sold a different car of the same make/model and that they had accidentally issued the wrong title. The title shows the car having been purchased in July and ownership relinquished in August. I also took him at his word when explaining the title mishap, but without any attempt to respond to my questions, I will need to research further into the car's history to confirm whether the explanation holds any weight. Google reviews are easily fixed, and the owners do not care about selling a teenager a car that will cost $$$$ to drive after leaving the lot. Be sure to test drive beyond the flat stretch of road in front of the shop. Make sure to hit the highway and a few hills. This would have saved us from a purchase in need of major engine work. Be extra cautious about the ineffectual 30 day warranty. If it were reasonable, it could have appeased our issues. But they pay only 10% of qualifying repairs, while charging a 30% restocking fee for lemons they actually agree to take back. So it is generally cheaper for the customer to fix major undisclosed issues than to even bother trying to return the car. Take this to heart and get a thorough mechanical inspection before buying from Korz. They probably have decent cars too…wish we got one of them.
