Just don’t…

If you get a mailer saying you won a cash prize and you call to confirm, and they tell you “you won $1000, no purchase necessary, can you come in tomorrow to pick it up?” Just don’t. Trust is the most important part of buying a car and this scheme to get people in is just a numbers game to hook people in. This is predatory and should be illegal. When I called again they changed the script and noticed I had already called. Now they say you have to go in to see how much cash you will get. (Starting as low as $5). I feel sorry for the whole team that cooked up this scheme which for me is reason enough to buy elsewhere, regardless of the car. I especially feel bad for the salesman’s 12 year old daughter who drew pictures for her dad to display at work who may someday realize that he is not really being honest. Showing me a car knowing that my smiling face would soon be angry when I found out that I didn’t really win. Then to top it off. the manager stepped in to imply that I was lying about what the person told me on the phone as the salesman slinked away. It felt like they rehearsed the whole scenario. I should have stood up and left when another customer walked by and mumbled under his breath “I would never buy a car from these people…”

DO NOT COME HERE!!

DO NOT GO HERE. You will regret ever coming here to buy a vehicle. They will make you jump through hoops and when you question them they get defensive and rude. If you have things agreed upon they will try to do everything but what is agreed upon. It’s a waste of time and money

Kenisha, you purchased a 2009 Mustang that had zero issues when you left. We did everything to help you get into the car that you wanted. You even purchased and extended warranty to cover your vehicle if anything were to go wrong with the car for the next couple of years. I am sorry that you are having problems with your car but that is why we strive to sell good warranties to protect your investment. I would be happy to sit down with you and go over how to use the warranty or help in other ways. Please give us a call at 269.685.9197 and I will make sure you are taken care of. Thank you

Was MidWest Motors Same Culture

This used car lot is owned by Donald Justin Miller, and is 1 of 3 lots under the Autowest name. The supposed “general manager” at the Plainwell location is Dan Reese. I highly encourage anyone who considers doing business with these people to Google their names and the business names to validate my statements, as you will see my statements are true and accurate. Don Miller changed the name from MidWest motors after “yo-yo scam” financing led to administrative action from Michigan Secretary of State in 2016. The most recent SOS licensing status of probation ending 12/2/20 clearly shows the name change did nothing to change the culture of the business along with the owner and those who represent him. My experience has confirmed that Autowest is a “not our problem” operation, with post-transaction customer service on par with a no-name, random corner lot used car seller. As a potential customer, employees at Autowest are typical salespeople, nice and willing to say anything to get you to sign. They even shared how “they’re trying to do things differently” and create a better reputation (obviously referencing the past behavior that led to licensing probation). Only a few hours after my vehicle purchase, the transmission began to slip, having trouble shifting and staying in gear at a maintained speed. Initially, I didn’t panic, thinking the people at Autowest “do things differently” and “want to take care of their customers”. I returned to Autowest the following business day and spoke with Dan Reese. Upon explaining the situation, Dan immediately responded with a list of things he couldn’t do. Dan even went as far to claim there were legal reasons he couldn’t do anything to “make it right”, which is blatantly false. I reminded Dan this false, and requested he refrain from spewing further lies. As the conversation progressed, Dan agreed to drive the vehicle himself to better understand the problem. Upon returning, Dan stated, “I don’t think it’s the transmission…it could be the transmission…but I think your problem is the engine”. I agreed there was potential for a different problem, however Dan’s initial response supported my concern there was some type of an issue. Dan quickly moved from confirming a problem, to saying it’s “probably that <I’m> not used to driving a vehicle with that type of transmission”, and that he’s driven hundreds of them and the way its shifting is “normal”. Dan’s differing theories don’t add up and both can’t be true. When I reminded Dan of my previous request not to lie, he became upset, and said he was “a few seconds away from asking <me> to leave”. I was surprised that a car salesmen representing himself as a general manager had such a difficult time being passively called out for lying. My advice for Dan Reese is that if he doesn’t like to be called out for a lie, simply don’t lie in the first place. After telling Dan the issue wasn’t resolved, I was not satisfied and I believe the culture of Autowest was to leave customers feeling like “we gotcha” and “it’s not our problem”, he reminded me that Michigan is a “no cooling off state”. Any dealer who needs to use this as a defense for “sorry that’s not our problem” certainly does not care about maintaining a repeat customer or a good reputation. When I told Dan I would not endorse Autowest and would be leaving a review to reflect my experience (this review) his was response was “ok, that’s fine”. Representatives of Autowest would claim they have tried to resolve the issue by offering to have their back yard mechanic look at it, or referring me to their “buddy Mike”. Neither of these options are reasonable, nor do they resolve this issue. I have given Autowest over a month to resolve this complaint, which remains unresolved. My last communication with Autowest reiterates they’re unwilling to make things right. While I have resigned myself to the possibility this predatory car lot got one over on me, I hope sharing my experience w
