Up front - I was not attempting to purchase a vehicle from this dealership. It doubles as a dealership/car rental company. My experience was on the car rental side...but the employees appear to all be part of the same company, so beware. I would not recommend A1 Auto Hawaii to anyone under any circumstances. I want to specifically highlight the employees Oz (aliases include Masa and Masaharu) and Makana. Avoid this company and those employees at all costs. They are awful to work with. I rented a vehicle here in early October 2021 for a good rate. So far, so good. David, who I worked with, tried to up-sell me on rental car insurance, which I declined because I had adequate coverage through my credit card. Upon returning the vehicle several weeks later, I had accidentally created a small paint chip on the bumper - my fault, and I took responsibility for it. Here's where it got messy. Oz (again, aliases include Masa and Masahara depending on the reviews you read) worked with me, and told me he needed to charge me a fee in order to finish the transaction. I didn't know any better and paid $500 using the same credit card (in retrospect, I should have refused). He told me the rental vehicle would need to go a body shop, get an estimate done, and be repaired. He acted like he was doing me real favor by only charging me $500, and assured me that I would be able to submit the claim to my insurance and get that $500 reimbursed. Since submitting the claim to my insurance company, I have not been able to get the necessary documents from A1 Auto Hawaii to complete my claim to my insurance company to get the $500 fee reimbursed. The communication from A1 Auto Hawaii has been horrible. I have emailed the email address I was given multiple times requesting the relevant documents, with no response. I have texted Oz multiple times, which he typically ignores. The only time he has responded is when I told him I was beginning to get a bad feeling about things and didn't want things to get ugly, or that I was several steps away from taking legal action. The first time we talked, he gave vague promises about getting me the documents, which he never did. He also denied ever receiving my email requesting documents despite it being sent to the correct email address multiple times. Our most recent interaction included him bullying me via text, calling me a "tough guy" and challenging me to call him back after ignoring multiple message (see screenshot). He then left the following voicemail after I ignored his call: "Dan, that's enough with the xxxxing legal threats already. Give me a xxxxing call when you get this message, brother. I have been more than responsive to you with the way our company does things, ok? So we've been doing our due diligence, you just have to wait like everybody else, man. So, give me a xxxxing call when you get this. Thank you so much." The irony is that Oz has not been responsive, communicative, or from my perspective done any due diligence. I suspect my number has been blocked, because when I call the company, it rings once and then beeps, which is a known sign that a number has been blocked. As a last ditch effort, I called yesterday to try to get documentation, and reached an employee who identified himself as Makana. He told me the email address that Oz/Masa/Masaharu has told me was wrong, and to send my request to a different email address - then immediately hung up on me. When I called back, it appeared my number had been blocked. I called using a different phone, got through to Makana, and asked his name. After identifying himself, he belligerently asked who I was, and when I refused to answer, hung up on me. This company is rotten to the core. They have no interest helping the customer and are angry, demeaning, and rude. Use ANYBODY else for your rental and auto purchasing needs.

Sold me a piece of junk
The truck I went to look at from an advertisement online was "on a back lot" also, but when we got there it was in pieces too. I got shown a different truck that they managed to get running and had apparently cleared the check engine lights on. I bought the truck for 5k, but spent 7k trying to get the check engine lights fixed, bent rods fixed, bad seals and gaskets, radiator filled with clay, all cylinder misfires, electronics, etc fixed. Even the AC had just been "refilled" so that it worked for only a few days. Sold me a piece of junk, got me to sign a weird and strangely worded document which says "no xxxxxxxx or whining". Check out their Google reviews, too. Yelp reviews are... iffy. You can contact Yelp and have reviews taken down. Not google.

Check out their Google reviews, too. Yelp reviews are... iffy. You can contact Yelp and have reviews taken down. Not google.

Weird calls and dealership looked unprofessional
Salesman called me and was very weird. I thought he was joking around but he was serious. Talked to me like I was some kind of fool or something. I physically went in and it looked like a swap meet for cars. I would never buy a car from here just because if their outside looks like crap; their cars are probably crap too

RUDE PUSHY POOR VEHICLES
Went to dealer to look at a few cars I was interested in online and went down to their new location one of the sales people were very nice to my boyfriend and I we ended up getting a SUV the only one we could get it was dirty and there was no gas car had to be jumped and looked like it was jus sitting there on lot after signing papers we asked a few questions Calvin the owner came out and was rude n basically forced us out of lot I felt bad for sales girl that helped us. I would never refer a friend their mark ups are insane n expensive for the product we are getting we are returning vehicle and never coming back to them

Unimpressed
I stopped by early in the day to inquire about a car I'd seen on-line. I learned it was in the "back lot," and would have to be brought out. No problem, I told them I'd be back around 4 PM. While the car WAS in the lot at 4PM, they had to jump start it twice, once to bring it to the main lot, and again so I could look at it. The car was filthy, even with 6 hours notice. I saw rust INSIDE the car, as well as cigarette burns in the plastic around the passenger doors (3-4 inch-long scars...not just ash marks). I walked away from this car after 2 minutes, and didn't look at another car on their website. Too little care taken for a customer who came BACK to look at their inventory. Color me unimpressed.

Junker!
They aint worth it. The guy who tended me never called back to sell a car. I was interested in three different models, none of them started, one had the accelerator skidding after jump started. They keep cars in very bad conditions.
