Fair & Honest - I Highly Recommend!

I was shopping for a very specific Corvette convertible and found a 2006 available at South Street Autos. Since I am from central New Jersey and was facing a 3 hour 25 minute drive to Maryland(according to Mapquest), each way, I called hoping to get some information about the car that was not listed on the website. Wayne was extremely helpful and courteous on the phone, answering all my questions. Most cars look great on the internet and then you get there and it's not what you expected or hoped for. Wayne and John were totally upfront and honest about the car. They were very understanding of how far away I was and were kind enough to pre-negotiate the price on the phone (most dealers would not do this) and provide me with an "out the door" price so that all I had to do was make the drive there and hope it was everything they said it was. Well, I made the trip and it was as beautiful in person as it looked online and was EXACTLY as they had described it. Because we worked out a price that was fair to everyone and the car was what I was "sold" on the phone, I bought the car on the spot and am thrilled with my purchase and the quality of the car. I would definitely make the 6-7 hour round trip again to buy a car from them, it was well worth it! Thank you for your honesty and fairness!

Find another place to buy, this place is pathetic

E-mailed on a Monday to set up a test drive for a 11 year old Corvette for Saturday. Was told to call back on Friday to make sure the car was still available. During the call the salesman started yelling to someone about the car and came back on to inform me that there has been a lot of activity on this car and someone was in the dealership yesterday working on a deal. We agreed that unless I heard back that I would be out in the morning to take a test drive. What the salesman did not know was that I visited the dealership on Sunday when they were closed and saw the car inside the showroom. So when I showed up on Saturday to find the car still in the exact same place in the showroom I knew the song and dance on the phone was a dishonest ploy to apply pressure. This was further confirmed when I opened the door to the car and the mileage was 7,909, the exact same mileage listed on the web site a week earlier. Clearly the car had not been test driven by the so-called prospective buyer mentioned on the phone. We were told that since it rained the night before that we could only take the car out if we agreed on a deal. My wife mentioned that we looked at another Corvette the weekend before and the car did not start at another dealer and we would only consider a deal after driving the car to which the salesman, in a very condescending manner stated, "ma'am, the car will start". At this point there were three salesman standing around us and their only concern was that the car was very clean and taking it out after a rain would require cleaning it again. My wife then said that we have a check in our pocket and your not going to let us drive the car so it won't get dirty? The three agreed that yes, they didn't want it to get dirty so we walked out. If you're in the market for a vehicle I suggest purchasing from another dealership, this place had no interest in working with a prospective buyer that would be paying cash and set up an appointment 6 days in advance and kept the appointment. Take your money and your business elsewhere.

Not happy.

I went there to take a look at a 2008 Challenger SRT8. It was drizzling a little. The salesman really didn't want me to take the car out because it was raining... cause ya know "its a muscle car". He didn't think I could drive it because it was raining. Let me mention to you now that I'm a woman. I just wanted to take it out around the block real quick to see if the ride was smooth. I asked for the window sticker information. He couldn't find it. I gave him my email so he could send it to me and guess what. I never heard from him again. I told him I was serious and would be buying within the week. I've been looking at Challengers for several weeks now. I've had several salesman keep in touch with me and eager to answer my questions. Needless to say. Two days after test driving this car (which I was very partial to and just needed to see the information on it) I purchased a 2013 RT. This place was more interested in the QFC they had for lunch than to sell me a car. I hope its not because I'm a woman and was looking at a "muscle car"... I'm hoping they are just really lazy!

Honest, low-pressure used car dealer

I don't trust used car salesmen or dealers. I believe their general reputation for hype and dishonesty is well deserved. My experience with South Street Auto was remarkable not only because it contrasted with nearly every other used car dealer I have visited over many years. It was absolutely positive. This is a professional operation. Here are the details in brief. I went there on a Saturday to look at a 2004 Volvo, which was advertised at a price $2000 below book value. The test drive was good, and the car seemed to be exactly as they advertised. They said their mechanic had checked it out thoroughly. But I wanted my Volvo mechanic to inspect it. They were very accommodating. We agreed that I would tentatively buy the car, and they would wait to put through the paperwork until they heard from me by the end of the day on Monday. On Monday my mechanic found three items of concern: a noise in the alternator that sounded as if it were near the breaking point, a leak in the power steering reservoir, and a crack in the seating for one shock absorber. South Street Auto was surprised by the finding, but readily acknowledged that these were meaningful concerns. I proposed a compromise: they would replace the alternator, and I would repair the other two problems at my mechanic. Within an hour the salesman had the owner's approval for this compromise. They replaced the alternator with a new one the next day while I waited there. Bottom line: South Street Auto is a company with honest, decent salespeople who treat you with respect, and who are willing to admit a mistake and to help in correcting it. The car is terrific, and was a great value even with the $450 in repairs, and the experience buying there was first rate. Let me note that I am a real buyer, I am not a relative or friend of anyone at South Street Autos, and they did not ask me to write this review (and don't know I am writing it).

Watch the Little Things

The Dodge Durango purchased is a very nice vehicle. However, one of the two remote door openers (clicker) was broken. Replace the battery but still dead on arrival. The Cost to repair (replace) was $250. Not covered under 1000 mile power train warranty. Now after 2000 miles the check engine light came on.
