Never again
Never again... I bought a Subaru Forester here. Note the car had a brand new inspection sticker on it. Following the test drive I pointed out a few things that needed to be fixed before I would entertain buying the car: The windshield had a chip in it that, while small enough to be inspectable, would eventually fail. The rearview mirror was cracked and unusable, shifter was stiff and the right rear window shuddered going up or down. A few days later they called and stated all the issues had been addressed. When I got there the rearview mirror had been replaced and the chip in the windshield had been mostly filled with a glass filler. They assured me the vehicle had a clean title and history. Taking them at their word, I purchased the car. Since they did not have an owner's manual for the car, they gave me a paper that said they would provide me one as soon as they could get one in. I'm still waiting for it. A few days later I found the rear window still shuddered going up and down. The support struts for the rear hatch also failed. I called Norms to ask if they would repair these and I was told "they're not inspection items". Less than a week of owning the car I read the Carfax report that I found tucked behind the other paperwork. The vehicle had a history of 2 accidents, numerous repairs and had been purchased from out of state auction after the original owner could not get the vehicle to pass their NY state inspection. More research revealed Norms sold the car for $4,000 over NADA. They had refused to negotiate on the price, but at the time the vehicle had seemed like a good deal. To say their salesmen are skilled and persuasive would be an understatement. Further investigation found several rust spots INSIDE the vehicle, namely the seat mounting, seat belt attachment points and a couple spots under the carpet. The only time I've seen rust inside a vehicle before was from flood damage. Norms failed to disclose any of that information, as they stated the vehicle title and history was clean. When I called to complain they stated "you own it now". Norms refuses to stand by their vehicles or their "warrantees". Eventually you just give up and stop trying to deal with them. I have owned the vehicle now for 10 months and 14,000 miles. So far I have: Put 53 quarts of oil in the motor. I check the oil weekly. I've been to several mechanics and they all say there is no leak. The engine is just burning it off and will need to be replaced. Norms claimed to provide a 6 month engine and transmission warranty, the customer only pays 50%. They refused to stand by that even though it was provided in writing. Repairs within the first two months: Replaced windshield wipers Replaced rear hatch support struts Replaced left muffler Repaired exhaust that was not properly connected to header pipe Within 6 months: Replaced windshield after a 9-inch crack sprouted from the chipped location Replaced both front struts and relevant components Multiple oil filters in hopes of reducing the oil consumption problem Within 8 months: Replaced front and rear brakes Replaced both seized rear brake calipers Upcoming repairs in order to pass the next inspection: The exhaust from the cat back. Turns out Norms mechanics had welded the connections together, so now I have to replace the entire thing, not just the section of y-pipe that has rusted through. Right muffler (my mechanic had stated when the left muffler was replaced that the right one would need to be done too, but wasn't urgent at the time) And this is just what I am aware of. I have never had a vehicle require so many repairs, or experienced a dealer who refused to address any problems within their warranty period Financially I'm stuck in the car. I can't trade or sell because it's worth less than half of what I still owe. My advice- Never, ever purchase a vehicle from Norms Used Cars in Wiscasset.

Great experience!
I want to express my great joy with experience at Norm's Used Cars. Carmine went above and beyond to make the transaction go smoothly. The whole time he was pleasant and patient. I live in South Carolina, so this was an out of state sale. He also worked with my son for the test drive and the pick up of the vehicle. I highly recommend this dealership.

Don't waste your time.
If I could give this dealership zero stars, I would absolutely do it. I purchased my 2012 Dodge Journey from Norm's in November of 2021. I brought it back in within the 30 day warranty period because it was making this terrible clunking noise (sounded like I was actually hitting a curb) when I would turn the wheel at a certain angle. They told me that it was simply an alignment issue, "fixed" it and sent me on my way. It didn't fix the problem. After 2 weeks, coincidentally outside my warranty period, it started again. No one could seem to figure out what the problem was. Instead of bringing it back to Norm's, I decided to get another opinion since Norm's clearly was not intending on looking at what the actual problem was. Myself and my family have called to ask them to make it right a few times and essentially told it's not their problem. Which sure, I can understand it not being under warranty anymore, but this problem is something that they obviously knew about before selling it to me. I went in there 8 months pregnant explaining how important having a reliable vehicle was. My THIRD CHILD. And here I am! 10 months into having this stupid car and I've dumped $3500 into the xxxx thing, when I have more important crap to be spending money on, all because these people didn't want to look into solving the actual problem and didn't want to make right on selling me this bum car. So, no. I will NOT be recommending this place to anyone. In fact, I'll be making it a point to suggest going pretty much anywhere else. Thanks.

not the greatest experience
I went to norms 7/29/20 and looked at some cars, decided to go with a 2010 Subaru Forester, had 134,000 on it at the time, but I was just looking for something affordable but reliable. Ended up going back a week later cause they sold it with crappy brakes and rotors, which they were super nice and replaced free. 2 weeks later I had to replace the plugs and wires at the tune of $60 because it was running rough (like it was ready to stall out while driving) and I can’t drive an hour to wiscasset every time something happens even though I was mad and should have. Engine light went on a few times in the first month or two I had it also but always went off. Last month I had to spend $608 (even with my extended warranty) on a tye rod and 2 control arms that needed to be replaced. Now the 02 sensor (the expensive one) needs to be replaced as my engine light has been on for 3 weeks again....and my first estimate is $687. NOT HAPPY!! I’ve owned the car 4 months and have already spent $1,300 fixing it by the time the 02 sensor is fixed....live and learn. Should have looked the car over more I guess.

There and back again.... an Element story.
One might think is a long way to go to buy a used car, but what an awesome trip it was with no small thanks to Carmine at Norm’s used cars in Wiscasset Maine. As a “veteran“ car buyer, I have no qualms in buying a car out of state. I often find that’s the way to get the best deals or find what you’re looking for. That said, I never thought buying my next ride would take me quite this far from home in sunny, warm central Florida. Well it did when I locked eyes (online) with a one owner Honda Element at Norm’s. Enter Carmine, the helpful and friendly salesman I talked to over the phone. He was able to give me good info about the car, reassure me about it’s condition and even did a “FaceTime “ walk around of the car. I was sold. Minutes later, I had plane tickets and Amtrak Auto Train reservations purchased for my wife and I. After an early flight out of Orlando, Carmine was kind enough to pick us up when we arrived in Portland. We arrived at the dealership and after a brief inspection and test drive, the deal was done and we were on our way to Lorton, VA to catch the Auto Train back to Florida the following evening. What a great experience and fun road trip in a great little car. We would do it again in a second. Thanks to Carmine and the team at Norm’s used cars!
