I purchased a used vehicle "as is" they had listed for

I purchased a used vehicle "as is" they had listed for 9,995. Everything seemed ok on the test drive, so I went ahead and purchased it. Two miles into driving it now that I owned it the transmission was shifting very hard and making a clunking sound. I turned around and went back to the dealership. The sales rep took it for a drive to me, and I showed him this hard shifting and clunking. He was very dismissive, but I took his word that everything was ok with it. I headed back down the interstate toward home. I live about 430 miles away. The vehicle made it about 350 miles before the service engine light came on. I pulled over and turned the vehicle off. My code reader indicated a problem with the transmission. It came on after the first time I had shut off the engine, besides the short test drive. It came on the first time after driving more than a few miles and turning it off. Basically, the first time it ran diagnostics after running a while. I did some research on the side of the road interstate. I come to find out the transmission fluid, and antifreeze are mixing together as indicated by finding a "milkshake" looking substance on the radiator cap. Driving the vehicle any further will lead to comeplete transmission failure. I had the vehicle towed to a local repair shop where I was quoted 10,830 in repairs needing immediate attention. It was too late to save the transmission apparently. The fact that it was clunking two miles after owning the vehicle suggests it was too late when I drove it off their lot. I would guess they reset the service engline light. I find it next to impossible to believe this wasn't an issue until I drove it for two miles. The chances that their own service department missed this issue are slim when this seems to be a very well known issue with these vehicles in their industry. I am convinced they knowingly sold me a vehicle they knew was on the brink of capastrophic failure. I waited to post this because I assumed based on other reviews that they were a reputable business that would at least help with cost of repairs. They finally got back to me after 5 days of being without a vehicle. They will not be helping me out at all with the cost of repairs. Not a dime. I was straight up lied to by their salesman about the condition of this vehicle prior to purchase.

Dealer response

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We're truly sorry to hear about the issues you’ve encountered with your vehicle. While we understand how frustrating this situation is, the vehicle in question was sold "as-is", with no warranty expressed or implied, which was disclosed at the time of sale and acknowledged during the purchasing process. Additionally, the vehicle is nearly 20 years old, and with older vehicles, unexpected issues can unfortunately arise—even after a test drive with no immediate warning signs. We want to emphasize that we do not reset warning lights or hide known issues from our customers. All pre-owned vehicles undergo a basic safety inspection, but we strongly encourage independent inspections prior to purchase—especially with high-mileage, older vehicles—so buyers can make fully informed decisions. While we regret that this experience did not meet your expectations, we remain committed to transparency and ethical business practices. We value all of our customers and always aim to provide as much information as possible at the time of sale. If you'd like to discuss your concerns further, our management team is always available to talk directly. — The Brookings Auto Mall Team

I talked to the dealership about a noise I had under my camaro and said my bumper to bumper warranty was about to expire and they squeezed me in. They found the problem which was my variable exhaust valve and are getting one coming. I told them if it snows and they salt the road I’m not bringing it back until spring and they said not a problem. They understood. Great place to do business with! They put the customer 1st.

Burke and all the Staff we dealt with were very friendly,

Burke and all the Staff we dealt with were very friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and courteous. They offered us extended warranty and coating options and did not have a problem when we declined the offer. Burke played catch with our grandchildren and kept them occupied while we were completing our final paperwork. It was a Pleasure working with Burke and all the staff.

I had the most pleasant experience here last week when I

I had the most pleasant experience here last week when I purchased my vehicle. This is my third time buying a car; this experience was the best. I have a particular need (e.g., vehicle type, time of purchasing, financing), and Crystian Sanchez was helpful enough to assist me. Also, I was in the moving process, and Crystian Sanchez was very friendly and helpful in getting the correct information at the right time. When I got into Brookings (after the 16 hours of driving), I went directly to Brookings Chevrolet to get my car and finish the paperwork. That is, my very first experience in Brookings was with Crystian Sanchez. Now, it has impacted me a lot, loving my new location, Brookings, and seeing that people around here are gentle, nice, and collegial. If you need to purchase a car, go to Crystian Sanchez at Brookings Auto Mall.

I won’t call out the salesman but we purchased a Toyota

I won’t call out the salesman but we purchased a Toyota sienna for my work. I’ve bought dozens of cars over the years and never had such a bad experience with a salesman. Will not be going back. Which is too bad because we are consistently looking for vehicles.
