Steve Helphrey was our sales person, after turbulence

Steve Helphrey was our sales person, after turbulence with other Bergstorm location we were able to finalize our purchase with him. The customer service provided by Steve is outstanding. He answered all our questions and made sure that the car we bought was in perfect condition. If you are looking for someone to treat you like top buyer this is your guy! Thank you Steve we’ll refer you to everyone who is looking to purchase a vehicle.

Working with Jennifer Hollenbeck. She is the most competent and hard working Customer Servixe person I’ve ever dealt with. Answered all my questions, got me all the info I requested. Certainly she is over the top when it comes to customers being #1. Highly recommend her when you are car shopping.

GREAT service and response to need

I moved to the area two years ago and bought my first car at Bergstrom Oshkosh. A year later, I needed to trade it in for another, much bigger car for hauling kids all over the state. I needed a dependable car, one where I am not in the shop every 3 months, but I am a new teacher and money is tight with 4 kids, a student loan, and life expenses. The manager, Mike, took the time to sit with me and list all the must-have features I needed, list what kind of miles I drive, and list how much room I would need for equipment and suitcases. He then turned me over to Cody Oleson, one of the nicest, most down-to-earth sales reps I've met. He also reviewed the list of what I needed and gave me many choices. He was incredibly patient as I drove *all* the choices and brands and made him sit in all the seats to rate the comfortableness and roominess of the second and third rows (I have very tall kids). He was such a good guy about it and never hesitated to help me, answer my weird questions, or give me the extra information I needed about my top three choices. Financing was easy and quick!! I was well taken care of and I felt great with my decision to buy. Thank you everyone for such great service! Sincerely, Tanya (Appleton)

Lied about low interest rates and played tried to play us.

Ive heard bad things about Bergstrom but I tried to be open minded and give them a chance. We liked the vehicle we test drove and we put a 500$ deposit down while we continued searching around the area for more vehicles. We were told "lets just have you meet the finance guy so you're familiar with another face around here." That was just a ploy. The finance guy, Pete, came in with his little tablet and everything and wanted to take down information and get income data. We never said we wanted to finance through them, but this was presented as "lets just get the numbers so that if you decide to buy the car it moves quickly for you." He then asked who we finance through, we told him our bank and he replied "we've been able to beat them lately." That sounded suspicious to me because why would a car dealership beat a credit union on interest? Well, Pete called back the other day and tried to present a 5 year loan as something that was lucky for us to have. You see, they ask you a question "how much per month do you want to keep it under." Then they take that number and they offer you a loan with a high interest rate under that monthly payment. Pete said "good news, they allowed an extended loan of 5 years for you, and that comes with an interest rate of 6.84%. My wife has 770 credit.... Then he snuck in there "this has nothing to do with your credit score." ... Why would you give us a rate that has nothing to do with a great credit score? So we called the bank and asked what our interest rate would be on that car. They said 4.25%, and if it were 2013 or newer then 3.49 percent and 3.24% for a 66 month loan. Many people dont understand how a longer loan, with a lower payment and a higher interest rate really screws you. Cars wear out and the longer you have a loan the more likely it is that something is going to go wrong with it and sure, youve been making payments but those payments have been applied to interest rather than the principal loan amount. Maybe if both these guys would just be honest then maybe we would have moved forward with this purchase, but a red flag is a red flag and this is too big of a purchase to disregard red flags. This was deceiving and it was not the "better interest rate than your bank" like he told us. If you cant trust the finance guy that the car salesmen introduced you to, then you cant trust the car salesmen or the establishment. Not dealing with Bergstrom anymore.

Dealer response

Thanks for the feedback and sorry for the frustration. We have a proud team who does things the right way. It sounds like we could have done a better job at communication in this case. We appreciate the opportunity and would still love to find a way to help.

Consumer response

If "the right way" is to be misleading about beating interest rates with no real intention of beating them then I dont understand where you are coming from. You ran my wifes credit (which was over 770) and then offered her an interest rate not based on her credit score. So what did you ding her credit for then? After going to 10+ dealerships in the area, I heard the whole shpeel about "Who do you bank through? Oh, I think we have been beating them by just a little bit on interest." You guys arent the only ones doing it. Many salesmen do it if you get to the point of talking about financing. I felt it was dishonest and intentional, not just bad communication. We were there to buy a car. We were interested. If we didnt have this happen we probably would have purchased through Bergstom but as I stated before, this broke trust. You dont tell us you can beat an interest rate, then ding the credit, then give us an interest rate that didnt require to good credit. Obviously that wasn't your best rate, or maybe it was and you guys were just dishonest from the beginning. Maybe you start high and make people fight for their interest rate? I dont know. Either way I guess it is what it is but I have to respectfully disagree that this was "done the right way" like you indicate in your response.
