Uconnect is what Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, parent company of seven U.S. brands — Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, Maserati and Ram — calls its multimedia system. It combines connectivity, entertainment, climate and (if equipped) navigation functions into a central touchscreen.

Depending on the type and trim level of your vehicle, Uconnect is available with several different screen sizes ranging from a small 5-inch touchscreen, standard on the subcompact Jeep Renegade, to an 8.4-inch screen, available on the Chrysler Pacifica minivan; a large 12-inch touchscreen is also available on some of the automaker’s larger vehicles, such as the Ram 1500 pickup truck.

Uconnect has a voice command system and is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration systems, allowing users to send hands-free texts and make hands-free phone calls as well as access their phone’s navigation systems and music. Uconnect is also used to turn the system’s subscription-based 3G or 4G Wi-Fi hot spot on and off (if equipped).

The Uconnect name is also associated with other systems, including the Uconnect Theater rear-entertainment system in the Chrysler Pacifica; the second row’s dual-touchscreen system displays built-in games or DVD movies. There’s also Uconnect Access, an app that can connect you to emergency services and roadside assistance as well as help you find your car and start it remotely.

More From Cars.com:

Is Uconnect Worth It?

Uconnect comes on virtually every new FCA vehicle, now, so naturally, yes, it’s worth it — but it may be even more worth it to hold out for the next version. Uconnect is among Cars.com editors’ favorite multimedia systems for its overall ease of use, and it sounds like the system will only be getting better. It’s currently in its fourth generation, and FCA was set to begin rolling out Uconnect 5 later in 2020.  The automaker promises a faster, easier-to-use experience with upgraded processing power and display technology as well as a more robust operating system; it will also include wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connection.
