In addition to its ambitious plans to become a fully electric automaker by 2030, Volvo is also fast emerging as a leader in the field of in-car technology. For the 2026 model year, the brand is making adaptive cruise control standard across its entire lineup, as well as improving its infotainment systems.

More Responsive Infotainment

Qualcomm Technologies’ Snapdragon Cockpit Platform undergirds Volvo’s next-generation infotainment tech, providing the processing power to make the brand’s system more than twice as fast as its prior tech and generating graphics up to 10 times faster. Ever the paragon of safety, Volvo notes that making its screens more responsive decreases distraction and “create[s] safer drivers.”

The user-facing side of that tech also gets upgraded, with the latest version of its Volvo Car UX standard across the Volvo lineup for 2026. Already seen in the XC90, EX90 and EX30, the new interface features reconfigured menus that keep more functions visible and accessible as the driver navigates the vehicle’s system.

While the new computing platform will only be available in new Volvos, the next-gen UX might be coming to the Volvo in your driveway. The brand says it will distribute the software to vehicles equipped with Google Built-In via an over-the-air update later this year.

Blacked Out

On a less tech-nerdy front, Volvo also announced that it will offer the 2026 XC40 with the Black Edition styling package. Previously only available on the XC60, the package blacks out the wheels, as well as all exterior trim and badging. On both SUVs, buyers will also now be able to spec the Black Edition with colors other than black, as Volvo is expanding the package’s availability to Crystal White, Vapour Grey and Denim Blue vehicles.
