Two Pickups Rank in Top 20 Least Expensive Vehicles to Insure

Each year, Insure.com ranks more than 2,800 vehicles to find out which have the most and least expensive average insurance rates. Insurance.com pulls quotes from six insurance companies in each state, averages them and provides consumers with that information for current model-year vehicles. The quotes Insurance.com received were based on this scenario: a 40-year-old male who commutes 12 miles to work each day with typical policy and deductible limits.

For 2017, two pickup trucks ranked among the top 20 least expensive vehicles to insure in the U.S. As you'd expect, both are entry-level models: the Nissan Frontier S mid-size pickup and the full-size Ford F-150 XL.

According to Insure.com, it costs $1,216 on average to insure the Nissan, which landed at No. 15 on the inexpensive list. The average cost to insure the Ford F-150 XL is $1,219 per year; it tied with the Honda HR-V LX and Subaru Crosstrek 2.0 for No. 17 on the least expensive list.

It's worth noting that not a single pickup made the top 20 list of the most expensive vehicles to insure. But maybe this is not so surprising given the fact this list is littered with high-performance German sports cars.
