Thinly Veiled Infiniti QX65 Monograph Concept Previews Upcoming SUV Coupe

It could be argued that the Infiniti FX, which became the model-year 2014-17 QX70, originated the “SUV coupe” trend, sporting a raked fastback design years before the BMW X6 ignited the craze. While BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and even Genesis offer multiple fastback SUVs, Infiniti has only the slow-selling QX55 to carry the torch today. But based on the QX65 Monograph concept the brand debuted at Monterey Car Week 2025, that looks set to change.

Minimally Conceptual

Almost identical to the QX60 below the beltline, the QX65 blends that seductive roofline with a mid-size SUV body. Other than typical concept-car embellishments and the roofline, which Infiniti insists does not compromise functionality, deviations from the QX60 are few.

On the QX65 Monograph concept, the so-called “piano-key” LED headlights are joined by a bridge of additional elements spanning the top of the grille. Behind Infiniti’s signature grille bars, which the brand says are an homage to Japan’s bamboo forests, additional twisted elements evoke the agitation of said forests during a storm. Out back, a full-width LED bar protrudes from the bodywork, with vertical spars Infiniti says were inspired by the tailfins of jet aircraft.

While the precise shapes of those lighting elements would have to be tweaked for production, it’s not hard to imagine them (or the grille) on a production vehicle. Even the bronze spear tracing the QX65 Monograph’s roofline doesn’t seem so farfetched. Only the color-shifting satin paint, a reddish purple over gold, would likely be prohibitively expensive for an assembly line.

History Repeats

Infiniti says the hue, which it calls Twilight, is an evolution of the Akane color worn by the QX80 Monograph Infiniti showed off two years ago. Just as that concept plainly previewed the upcoming production SUV, the brand makes little secret of its plans for the QX65. It closed its announcement of the QX65 Monograph concept with “Stay tuned to see the extraordinary made real in the coming months.” It’s safe to say there will be another fastback SUV in the Infiniti lineup very soon.
