Same SUV, Significantly More Range, Still Top of the Line: Audi E-Tron Renamed Q8 e-Tron for 2024

Audi is shaking up its electric vehicle lineup slightly at the top end with the 2024 Audi Q8 e-Tron, which replaces the E-Tron. Also available as the sportier Q8 Sportback e-Tron, the SUV brings a similar level of technology and luxury to EV buyers, but the real story is the boost in estimated range it receives for the new model year.

Performance for the all-wheel-drive 2024 Q8 e-Tron and e-Tron Sportback comes from two electric motors paired with a 106-kilowatt-hour battery pack for a system total of 402 horsepower when Boost mode is engaged. According to Audi, range has been increased to 285 miles for the base model (59 miles more than the outgoing model) and around 300 miles for the Sportback with Ultra Package (an increase of 75 miles); no figures have yet been confirmed by the EPA, however. Finally, the performance-oriented SQ8 e-Tron will use three electric motors, but more details will be available closer to its launch date.
Audi also increased the amount of charging power the Q8 eTron can handle when hooked up to a DC fast-charging station, to 170 kilowatts from 150 kW. This allows it to charge from 10% to 80% in about half an hour. The 2024 Audi Q8 e-Tron also will come with a standard Plug & Charge feature, which automatically authorizes and confirms billing information via encrypted vehicle-to-interface communication. This allows charging to start when the cable is plugged into the vehicle, eliminating the need to enter a credit card or some other payment at the charger.
The new name also brings refreshed styling. The 2024 Q8 e-Tron features a new grille design, a revised rear fascia, reworked headlights and new wheel designs. Inside, the electric SUV includes standard four-zone climate control and a panoramic moonroof. Optional extras include three-stage ventilation for the front seats in Premium Plus and Prestige trims, massaging seats in the Prestige variants and dual-pane glass for the side windows. A dual-screen infotainment system will continue to be offered, with the upper 10.1-inch screen controlling multimedia features and the lower 8.6-inch screen managing climate controls.
