Recall Alert: 2015-20 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500 Airbag Inflators
Ram parent Stellantis has put out a recall for more than 212,000 of its 1500, 1500 Classic, 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks in an effort to resolve an issue concerning moisture contamination in the side curtain airbag inflators.

A Stellantis investigation found that the affected trucks could be equipped with faulty inflators that were contaminated by moisture during the inflator supplier’s manufacturing process. Though Stellantis said the inflators were produced by a supplier implicated in a similar recall by another automaker, a spokesperson confirmed to Cars.com that this is unrelated to the yearslong Takata crisis. The automaker said in a statement that such inflators may rupture, even without airbag deployment, possibly sending debris into the cabin. It also said it’s aware of a single rupture involving one of its vehicles, though there were no injuries.
Affected trucks include the previous-generation Ram 1500 for the 2015-18 model years; the similar (but rebadged following the latest-gen 1500’s introduction) 1500 Classic for the 2019-20 model years; and model-year 2015-20 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups and chassis cabs. Current-generation Ram 1500s are not affected by the action.
