Vehicles Affected: Approximately 205,000 model-year 2008-10 Hyundai Elantra sedans manufactured June 1, 2008, to April 30, 2010, and model-year 2009-10 Elantra Touring wagons manufactured Nov. 1, 2008, to April 30, 2010
The Problem: In these vehicles, the electronic power-steering control unit may mistakenly disable power-steering assist, requiring greater driver effort to steer at low speeds. This increases the risk of a crash.
The Fix: Dealers will inspect and update the electronic power steering control unit for free.
What Owners Should Do: The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners can call Hyundai at 855-671-3059 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at 888-327-4236 for more information.
