There’s no way to mention the Porsche Mission E concept without alluding to Tesla’s Model S. Tesla has become synonymous with electric cars, especially luxury electric cars, and that’s something Porsche is looking to change.
The Mission E is a four-seat, four-door sport sedan just like the Model S. There’s no debating the similarities there. Or how close the promised performance numbers are, like a zero-to-62 mph time of less than 3.5 seconds or a 300-plus mile range.
There’s no doubt that Porsche can build the Mission E for real — likely minus the holographic dashboard — since it is powered by electric motors currently in use in Porsche racecars. No, the question would be the cost. Most Tesla Model S sedans are sold at more than $100,000, while Porsche’s current Panamera e-Hybrid starts at $97,095 including destination. The Mission E could soar in price far above either one.
But big price tags haven’t slowed down the Tesla Model S’ hype or sales. A gander at the Mission E images below could start similar hysteria for Porsche.
