Volkswagen is recalling more than 29,500 Tiguan SUVs and Arteon sedans, as well as Q3 SUVs from its Audi luxury arm, due to a software error that may prevent the rearview camera image from displaying.
Affected vehicles include model-year 2022-24 Tiguans, model-year 2023 Arteons and model-year 2024-25 Q3s. The issue stems from a software error in the camera control unit at vehicle startup, which may prevent the rearview camera image from displaying. A missing rearview camera image reduces rear visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.
To fix the issue, dealers will update the camera control unit software for free. Audi and VW will begin notifying owners April 11, but those with further questions can contact VW at 800-893-5298 or Audi at 800-253-2834 (VW’s recall numbers are 91NY for VW and 90AV for Audi), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
