Honda is recalling approximately 152,800 MDX SUVs from its luxury arm Acura over an issue involving the rear tailgate lid lights and exterior position lights, which may fail.

Affected vehicles include model-year 2014-20 MDXs. Moisture may enter through an unevenly sealed surface on the tailgate lid light and cause the light to fail. It’s also possible a short circuit may occur and affect the position light fuse, which could cause the exterior position lights and certain interior lighting to fail. Failure of the exterior position lights may prevent the vehicle from being visible to other traffic at night, increasing the risk of a crash.

To resolve the issue, dealers will install a fuse harness and, as necessary, replace the lid lights and repair the body dust sealer. All repairs will be done for free. Certain model-year 2014-19 MDXs from a previous recall for lid light assemblies that were previously repaired are also included in this recall and will need to have the new repair performed. Acura will notify owners May 27, but those with questions in the meantime can contact its customer service at 800-382-2238 (Acura’s designation for this recall is FLI), call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
