Honda is recalling roughly 114,700 of its Fit hatchbacks and HR-V compact SUVs over an issue with the rearview camera image, which may not display when the engine is started with a key.
Affected vehicles include model-year 2018-20 Fits and 2019-22 HR-Vs. The issue is due to the display audio unit’s power circuit, which was improperly designed. When the engine is started with a key, the cranking of the key can cause the battery to lose charge and prevent the display audio from starting up, resulting in an absent rearview camera image. This can reduce the driver’s visibility and increase the risk of a crash.
To resolve the issue, dealers will update the display audio unit software for free. Honda will begin notifying owners March 13, but those with further questions in the meantime can call the automaker at 888-234-2138 (Honda’s number for this recall is 6DW), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
