Mazda Drops Prices on 2025 CX-5, 2.5 S Trim Now Below $30,000

The CX-5 is Mazda’s bestselling vehicle — historically, by a huge margin; in 2023, it outsold the brand’s next three bestsellers combined. For the 2025 model year, the CX-5 may gain a bit of mojo thanks to the resurrection of the entry-level 2.5 S trim, which brings the compact SUV’s starting price below $30,000.

Carryover Everything
With the exception of two USB-C ports for front-seat occupants, the revived 2.5 S trim and the elimination of the 2.5 S Premium trim, there’s nothing new to the CX-5 for 2025. The 2.5 S models are powered by a normally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 187 horsepower and 186 pounds-feet of torque. Turbo trims get a turbocharged version of the engine that delivers 227 hp and 310 pounds-feet on regular gas, or 256 hp and 320 pounds-feet on premium.
Both engines are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. With the base four-cylinder, Mazda says the 2025 CX-5 gets an EPA-rated 26/30/28 mpg city/highway/combined; the Turbo returned 22/27/24 mpg for 2024 (official EPA ratings for the 2025 model are not yet available).

Safety Equipment and Trim Levels
Just ducking under $30,000 by a denomination you probably have on you right now — if you still carry cash — the 2.5 S rides on 17-inch wheels and has LED headlights and black lower-body trim. Inside, it features keyless starting, cloth upholstery, manually adjustable front seats, reclining rear seats, four speakers, and a 10.25-inch infotainment screen with a control knob and touchscreen functionality when running Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
Standard safety features include forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure steering assist, blind spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, a rear-seat reminder and rain-sensing windshield wipers.
In exchange for its $1,330 premium over the base trim, the 2.5 S Select adds body-color lower bumpers, rocker moldings and fender trim, plus rear privacy glass, auto-leveling headlights and keyless entry. Its interior is upgraded with synthetic leather, heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone climate control and six speakers.
Another short step up in pricing gets buyers the 2.5 S Preferred. This CX-5 trim level includes a power moonroof, power liftgate, leather upholstery (with power adjustability for both front seats), adjustable lumbar for the driver’s seat and auto-dimming rearview mirrors.
The Carbon Edition trim returns from 2024, again in an exclusive Polymetal Gray paint with a choice of a black leather interior with red stitching or a full red leather interior. It boasts black finishes on its 19-inch wheels, side mirrors and lower body trim. It also gets a 10-speaker Bose audio system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless smartphone charging.
The 2.5 S Premium Plus rides on gray 19-inch wheels and gets a drive-mode controller with Normal, Off-Road and Sport settings. Other standard equipment includes a 7-inch LCD screen in the instrument cluster, heated steering wheel, contrast stitching, ventilated front seats and heated rear seats. On the Premium Plus, the CX-5’s standard safety suite is reinforced with a 360-degree parking camera, front and rear parking sensors, a head-up display, adaptive headlights and windshield wiper deicers. Navigation and traffic-sign recognition are available.
In the turbocharged CX-5 lineup, the Carbon Turbo serves as the entry point. Here, buyers can choose from two colors, Zircon Sand Metallic or Rhodium White, again with black trim and 19-inch wheels. The Carbon Turbo is upholstered in terracotta leather with black synthetic-suede inserts and stitching. It features much of the 2.5 S Premium Plus’s standard equipment, including heated and ventilated front seats, the 360-degree parking camera with front and rear sensors, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless phone charging.
The 2.5 Turbo Premium fills in the Carbon Turbo’s blanks with heated rear seats and windshield wiper deicers. It also adds Traffic Jam Assist for reduced-stress gridlock, plus a black grille and interior trim.
At the top of the line sits the 2.5 Turbo Signature. It rides on silver 19-inch wheels and features matching silver trim front and rear, as well as a gunmetal grille. The Turbo Signature’s interior is upgraded with available brown Nappa leather, real wood trim and ambient lighting. Navigation and traffic-sign recognition are standard, as are reverse automatic braking and a driver-attention monitor.
