Mazda Announces Carbon Turbo Trim for 2024 Mazda3, CX-30, CX-5
Until mankind figures out how to manufacture something lighter and stronger than carbon fiber at scale, it will remain the de rigueur material in automotive circles. But carbon fiber is also expensive, so when Mazda calls the new trim level for its 2024 Mazda3, CX-30 and CX-5 Carbon Turbo, the company means the color, not the material. The turbo housings and twirly pieces will definitely not be made of carbon fiber.

Carbon Turbo models will apply the same strategy Mazda introduced with its (turboless) Carbon Edition trim to the turbocharged offerings at the top of their respective hierarchies. All 2024 Carbon Turbos are painted a tan Zircon Sand Metallic, with black suede and brown interiors with gunmetal trim. The side mirrors, grille and aluminum-alloy wheels are finished in metallic black.
While Mazda has provided no additional details about Carbon Turbo variants, it’s safe to expect them to otherwise mirror the content of the Turbo models. That would mean they’ll be well equipped with many of Mazda’s comfort, safety and tech features — and if they follow the path of the prior Carbon Edition variants, they’ll do it for a minimal upcharge. So, if you’re in the market for a 256-horsepower turbocharged sedan, hatchback or SUV with all-wheel drive and you like shades of brown, Mazda has just the thing for you.
