Kia is recalling more than 82,200 examples of its hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric Niro compact SUV over an issue with the front passenger airbag.
Affected vehicles include model-year 2023-25 Niro, Niro EV and Niro Plug-in Hybrid vehicles. The floor wiring beneath the front passenger seat may become damaged from repeated seat adjustment. As a result, the airbag or seat belt pretensioner may not deploy in the event of a crash, the airbag may not be able to be suppressed for a small occupant like a child, or the airbag may inadvertently deploy. All of these scenarios increase the risk of injury.
Dealers will inspect, replace and reroute the floor wiring harness for free and install wiring covers. Kia will notify all affected owners March 14, but those with further issues can contact Kia at 800-333-4542 (Kia’s number for this recall is SC332), call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
