Kia has issued a recall for nearly 51,600 of its Carnival minivan over its power-sliding doors, which may close on occupants getting in or out.

All model-year 2022 and some model-year 2023 Carnivals are affected. The issue is with the power-sliding door’s auto reverse feature, which may not activate at all times, causing the door to close on occupants. There has been a small number of injuries reported to the automaker, though Kia says it believes the injuries may be a result of customer unawareness that the door is closing.

As a fix, dealers will update the power-sliding door control module software for free. Kia will begin notifying owners April 28, but those with further questions can call the automaker at 800-333-4542 (Kia’s number for this recall is SC266), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
