Infiniti set its sights directly at younger premium buyers with its just-announced Q30 premium compact concept debuting at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The automaker released a single image of the concept before its introduction. Following the hierarchy of Infiniti’s new naming convention, the Q30 slots below the Infiniti Q50 sedan in its passenger-car lineup; SUVs wear QX names.

With the car, Infiniti intends to defy traditional body styles of the premium compact segment, which includes vehicles like the BMW X1, Acura ILX, Volvo C30 and Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class. In a statement, Infiniti says the Q30 is a blend of a coupe, hatchback and crossover designed for younger customers who are “seeking an alternative to traditional premium compact vehicles and open to convention-challenging approaches.”

We definitely see the hatchback influence, and Infiniti says it equates to roominess on the inside. Also present is the higher stance of a crossover SUV, but coupe styling? Not so much, despite Infiniti’s claim that the dynamic design and sportiness comes from coupe influence. That’s not necessarily a bad thing given the already attractive, albeit Mazda-like, design of the Q30. We’ll have to wait for more information when the Q30 debuts at the Frankfurt Motor Show on Sept. 10.
