Three-row SUVs are a popular group for family shoppers, and Cars.com really likes one of them in particular: That is the Hyundai Palisade, an all new SUV for the 2020 model year. It beat out six other three-row family SUVs in an intensive multicar head-to-head comparison test that we conducted in 2019 and eventually went on to win our top award for any model year, the Best Of car — in this case our Best of 2020.

But that comparison was missing one important competitor, the 2020 Toyota Highlander, another redesigned three-row SUV.

We’ve finally had a chance now to test the Highlander in a side-by-side comparison with the Palisade, the latter of which Cars.com has owned since December as part of our long-term testing fleet. We drove the cars back-to-back and judged them on 18 categories, including acceleration, ride quality, interior quality and roominess.

When it comes to driving the Highlander and Palisade, there were a lot of similarities, resulting in a lot of ties — but we also found some big differences. For example, one of the biggest differences was ride quality — a stark difference, in fact.

Watch the video below for our comprehensive findings from our full head-to-head comparison of the 2020 Hyundai Palisade and the 2020 Toyota Highlander.
