If your sole criteria for choosing a new car are that it have standard all-wheel drive and be as cheap as possible, there are few choices that suit your needs better than the 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. But if you want a vehicle that feels vaguely modern, be aware that the Outlander Sport debuted in 2011 and hasn’t changed much since then. It doesn’t change much for 2025, either, with last year’s short-lived Trail Edition disappearing from the lineup and rear-seat alert newly standard.

What Are the 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport’s Trim Levels?

The entry-level Outlander Sport S is about as basic as a new car gets, riding on 16-inch steel wheels and featuring manually adjustable front seats, cloth upholstery, a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen and four speakers. It does include a few niceties, though, such as LED head- and taillights, automatic climate control, rain-sensing windshield wipers and remote keyless entry.

One step up, the ES adds LED foglights and 18-inch aluminum wheels. The ES is also available in six colors and with a black or gray interior, versus the two colors and black interior offered on the ES.

Black side mirrors and black 18-inch wheels set the LE apart visually, as do two more color choices. The LE is only available with a black interior, but sports red stitching on the seats and trim. It also gets heated front seats and an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite radio and voice recognition.

The SE rides on 18-inch two-tone wheels and adds push-button start, a synthetic leather and fabric interior, two more speakers (for a total of six), and additional safety tech that includes blind spot warning, lane change assist and rear cross-traffic alert.

At the top of the Outlander Sport lineup is the SEL, which features a larger, more powerful engine, a power-adjustable driver’s seat and black leather interior.

Standard and Available Safety Features

The 2025 Outlander Sport’s safety package is as basic as the rest of the vehicle. Standard equipment includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning and automatic high beams. The SE and SEL add blind spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors are available on every trim level as a stand-alone option.

What Are the 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport’s Powertrain Specs and MPG?

Every 2025 Outlander Sport except the SEL is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine making 148 horsepower and 145 pounds-feet of torque. The SEL gets a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 168 hp and 167 pounds-feet. A continuously variable automatic transmission and AWD are the only drivetrain available. Outlander Sports with the 2.0-liter return an EPA-rated 23/29/26 mpg city/highway/combined. The 2.4-liter in the SEL is rated at 23/28/25 mpg.
