How Do Car Seats Fit in a 2024 Honda Passport?

The verdict: The 2024 Honda Passport stands out with three sets of Latch anchors, making its backseat more flexible for car-seat installation. We tested the off-road-oriented TrailSport version of the five-seat mid-size SUV.

Does it fit three car seats? Yes, but to get three car seats to fit across the backseat, we had to use the seat belt to install the infant seat in the middle seat rather than the Latch anchors. This allowed us to maintain access to the buckle for the child in the booster.

Take a look at how the Latch system and each car seat scored below in our Car Seat Check of the 2024 Honda Passport.

A Grade

  • Infant seat: The infant seat has chunky, rigid Latch connectors that make it easy to find the Latch anchors. There was no need to move the front passenger seat forward to accommodate the infant seat; our 5-foot-6-inch front passenger had comfortable legroom in front of the seat.

B Grade

  • Latch: The Passport has three sets of lower Latch anchors, allowing parents to install car seats in any rear seat. With car seats that have chunky, rigid connectors, the anchors are easy to use; with skinny, hooklike connectors, they require a bit of muscle to connect. The middle seat’s anchors are marked differently than the outer seats’ anchors, signaling the Latch anchors need to be used as sets and can’t be shared across seats. Additionally, the Passport’s three tether anchors are hidden at the base of the seatbacks. A label alerts caregivers that the tether anchors sit below the cargo floor. To access them, you have to first slide the rear seat forward. This setup might make them difficult for caregivers to find and use.
  • Rear-facing convertible: We had to use extra muscle to get our convertible seat’s hooklike Latch connectors to connect to the lower anchors. The front passenger had comfortable legroom ahead of the rear-facing convertible.
  • Booster seat: After removing the head restraint, the booster fit well on the wide outboard seat. The Passport’s seat belt buckles are floppy, however, and might be difficult for kids to use independently.

C Grade

  • Forward-facing convertible: After removing the head restraint to situate the convertible flush against the seatback, it fit well. Again, we struggled briefly to connect this car seat and its skinny connectors to the lower Latch anchors. We also struggled to connect to the hidden top tether anchor, which required us to slide the rear seat forward to access the anchor below the cargo floor.

Grading Scale

A: Plenty of room for the car seat and the child; doesn’t impact driver or front-passenger legroom. Easy to find and connect to Latch and tether anchors. No fit issues involving head restraint or seat contouring. Easy access to the third row.

B: One room, fit or connection issue. Some problems accessing the third row when available.

C: Marginal room plus one fit or connection issue. Difficult to access the third row when available.

D: Insufficient room, plus multiple fit or connection issues.

F: Does not fit or is unsafe.

About Cars.com’s Car Seat Checks

Editors Jennifer Geiger and Jennifer Newman are certified child safety seat installation technicians.

For the Car Seat Check, we use a Chicco KeyFit 30 infant-safety seat, a Graco Contender 65 convertible seat and Graco TurboBooster seat. The front seats are adjusted for a 6-foot driver and a shorter passenger. The three child seats are installed in the second row. The booster seat sits behind the driver’s seat, and the infant and convertible seats are installed behind the front passenger seat.

We also install the forward-facing convertible in the second row’s middle seat with the booster and infant seat in the outboard seats to see if three car seats will fit; a child sitting in the booster seat must be able to reach the seat belt buckle. If there’s a third row, we install the booster seat and a forward-facing convertible. Learn more about how we conduct our Car Seat Checks.

Parents should also remember that they can use the Latch system or a seat belt to install a car seat, and that Latch anchors have a weight limit of 65 pounds, including the weight of the child and the weight of the seat itself.
