Honda Rolls Out Free Maintenance Plan for 2023 Models

With new-vehicle transaction prices and fuel costs both at record highs, car ownership is more expensive than ever. To lessen the additional burden of routine maintenance expenses for new Honda owners, the automaker is rolling out a complimentary maintenance plan called Honda Service Pass. Launching with the upcoming 2023 Honda Odyssey, the plan offers basic maintenance services for the first two years or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first.

What Does Honda Service Pass Cover?

The Honda Service Pass offers free factory-scheduled maintenance services at participating Honda dealerships. Covered services include oil and filter changes, tire rotations, and multi-point inspections for all 2023 Honda vehicles during the active time period; the maintenance plan can be transferred to another owner if the vehicle is sold within the two-year, 24,000-mile window. The added value of this plan depends on the maintenance costs for a specific vehicle, however. AAA estimates that the average cost per mile for maintenance among all vehicle classes was 9.55 cents in 2021. Assuming you drive 15,000 miles per year, maintenance costs will average $1,433.

In addition to the new complimentary maintenance plan, all new Honda vehicles continue to offer a limited warranty for three years or 36,000 miles and a powertrain limited warranty for five years or 60,000 miles. Roadside assistance is included in the limited warranty.

2023 Odyssey Arrives Soon With New Sport Trim

The 2023 Odyssey minivan will be the first Honda to offer the complimentary maintenance plan. Most of the Odyssey’s features carry over from the 2022 model, including a 280-horsepower V-6 engine and 10-speed automatic transmission. A new Sport trim will be available that slots between the EX-L and Touring models; it brings unique interior and exterior styling elements for a more aggressive take on the popular family hauler.

The Odyssey Sport stands apart from other trims with dark taillights, black 19-inch wheels and gloss-black exterior trim for the grille, headlights and door mirrors. The interior also gets edgier styling: Black leather with red contrast stitching covers the seats and steering wheel to complement the black roof pillars and headliner, as well as the red accent lighting.

Other than the darkened exterior and interior details, the Odyssey Sport’s standard features match that of the EX-L trim. They include a power moonroof, power tailgate and an eight-way power-adjustable front passenger seat. The Honda Sensing suite of driver-assist features comes standard on all Odyssey models and bundles forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and brake assist, adaptive cruise control, lane departure prevention and lane keep assist. While the Odyssey doesn’t top the list for cargo space among its rivals, it scored high marks in Cars.com’s car seat evaluation.

Pricing and Release Date

The upcoming 2023 Honda Odyssey will start at $38,635 (all prices include the destination fee) for the EX trim, and the new Sport will start at $42,505. Currently, the 2022 model has a starting price of $34,335 for the base LX, which will be discontinued for 2023. The 2023 Odyssey is expected to arrive in dealerships this May.
