We’ll be out in sunny California next week testing the all-new Buick Regal, but today some Regal news crossed the wires that will have enthusiasts buzzing. The Detroit News confirmed that GM will indeed build a turbocharged performance variant of the Regal called the GS and that it will likely go on sale next year.
The news isn’t shocking, as the GS show car that made the auto-show rounds this past year was well received by just about everyone. Maybe that’s because the GS show car featured all-wheel drive, a 255-horsepower, turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a six-speed manual transmission. It would be great competition for the likes of the Acura TSX V-6 and the Lexus IS 350.
Let’s hope we learn a few more nuggets about the GS next week as we test its more sedate sibling.
