Elsewhere in the world, a refreshed Genesis Electrified G80 sedan will go on sale for the 2026 model year. But here in the U.S., the model is disappearing from the brand’s lineup after the 2025 model year, according to the industry observers at Automotive News, and has already been removed from the brand’s website.

Daunting From the Get-Go

That’s little surprise, as the deck has been stacked against the luxury electric vehicle ever since its launch for 2023. Sales of all types of sedans have been in decline for years, and while EV adoption is on the rise, they still account for less than 10% of new-vehicle purchases in the U.S. Indeed, the only Genesis vehicles the G80 lineup (including the higher-volume gas-powered model) outsells here are the larger G90 sedan and the electric GV60 SUV.

Built in South Korea, the Electrified G80 was never eligible for the federal tax credit that helped move its EV siblings out of Genesis showrooms. That and uncertainty about tariffs likely also contributed to the Electrified G80’s demise on our shores. Automotive News reports that the EV’s monthly sales volumes in 2025 have been down 77% compared to last year, with a mere 10 Electrified G80’s sold nationwide this past July.

Medium Fish in a Tiny Pond

While the Electrified G80’s EPA-rated 282-mile range compares favorably against other luxury-brand electric sedans, a starting price in the $70,000s placed it above competitors such as the BMW i4 Gran Coupe and i5. Genesis isn’t the only premium brand struggling to sell EVs in the fast-changing current market, either: Mercedes-Benz recently announced that it is pausing domestic deliveries of its U.S.-built EQE and EQS models, as well.

Stephanie Brinley, associate director of auto intelligence at S&P Global Mobility, told Automotive News that Genesis could bring the Electrified G80 back to market at a later date, depending on how market conditions settle, but that strikes us as unlikely. Given all the obstacles it has faced since the beginning, we’re a little surprised it ever went on sale at all.
