Another major recall has struck Ford, its third in two weeks. Affected vehicles this time include two models no longer in the manufacturer’s lineup: the Focus and EcoSport. An engine oil pump failure affecting some 139,700 vehicles is the culprit.
Affected vehicles include the model-year 2016-18 Focus cars and model-year 2018-22 EcoSport SUVs, the last respective years (for now) in the U.S. for each nameplate. The oil pump drive belt or drive belt tensioner may fail, resulting in a loss of engine oil pressure. Such a loss can result in an engine stall and a loss of power braking assist, increasing the risk of a crash.
For the fix, dealers will replace the oil pump tensioner assembly and oil pump drive belt; both repairs will be done for free. The automaker will notify owners Feb. 13, but those with further questions in the meantime can call Ford at 866-436-7332 (Ford’s number for this recall is 23S64), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
