Ford is expanding a previous recall to include more than 123,600 Expedition SUVs, F-150 pickup trucks and Lincoln Navigator SUVs (Lincoln is Ford’s luxury brand). The issue involves the vehicles’ brakes.
Affected vehicles include model-year 2017-18 Expeditions, F-150s and Navigators, all equipped with 3.5-liter EcoBoost engines. The issue lies in the brake master cylinder, which may allow brake fluid to leak into the brake booster. This can reduce brake function and increase the distance required to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
As a fix, dealers will replace the brake master cylinder, and if a leak is found, the brake booster will also be replaced, if necessary, for free. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 28, but those with further questions can contact Ford at 866-436-7332 (Ford’s recall number for this issue is 25S37), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
