To the long list of ways in which the Volvo XC60 and Ram 1500 are alike — both have cupholders, valve-stem caps and floormats — we can now add that both have a Black Edition. Well, Ram calls its black truck the Night Edition these days, but Volvo remains forthright and is just calling its blacked-out XC60 SUV the Black Edition.
Available with the line-topping Ultimate trim level, the 2024 Volvo XC60 Black Edition comes only in Onyx Black, with the iron-mark logo in the grille and the Volvo lettering across the liftgate rendered in black. It rolls on gloss-black 21-inch wheels. Everything is all black inside, too, with the exception of the aluminum trim and the XC60’s familiar crystal gearshift.
Volvo will offer the Black Edition on both of the XC60’s powertrains, a mild-hybrid 247-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder or the plug-in hybrid XC60 Recharge, which pairs a 143-hp rear electric motor with a 312-hp turbo four-cylinder for a total of 455 hp.
Customers interested in a black XC60 will be adding $1,100 to their bill. Prices start at $58,795 (including $1,095 destination) for the regular XC60 or $70,245 for the XC60 Recharge. Sales will begin later in 2023, with deliveries starting in early 2024.
