Elite EQ: 2024 Mercedes-Maybach EQS680 SUV Priced From $181K

For electric vehicle buyers for whom a Mercedes-EQ EQS580 SUV just isn’t powerful enough and an AMG EQS Sedan doesn’t have sufficient presence, Mercedes has the perfect EV: the 2024 Mercedes-Maybach EQS680 SUV, which starts at $181,050.

What Is the Maybach EQS?

The Maybach EQS680 SUV is all-new for 2024 and based on the Mercedes-EQ EQS SUV, which itself was new for 2023. It ditches the Benz’s third-row seat — with a bulkhead behind the second row insulating occupants from the rustle and clunk of their stuff — and boasts a thorough luxury rework inside and out to elevate it to the elite plane where Maybach competes with Bentley and Rolls-Royce for the pocket change of the global power class.

Apparently, there’s still no substitute for chrome to convey class, as the Maybach EQS680 wears more of the stuff than a ‘70s Cadillac. Its grille is jammed full of vertical chrome slats, the lower air intakes feature a motif of chromed Maybach logos, and the windows are framed in a wide band of the shine. The standard 21-inch wheels feature the sort of heavy look that says, “I do not tolerate scarcity of materials.”

Inside, standard Nappa leather seats feature heating, ventilation and massage for all four occupants. (A rear bench is technically standard, but individual buckets are a no-cost option, so why would you not?) Rear passengers get individual 11.6-inch entertainment screens embedded in the front seatbacks and a tablet docked in the center console. A refrigerated compartment between the rear seats could hold things other than champagne, but then what would be the purpose of the special cupholders with fingers to securely clamp the foot of fine stemware?

Powertrain Specs and Range

With a lithium-ion battery and motors mounted at each end of the vehicle, the EQS680 SUV has all-wheel drive, 649 horsepower and 700 pounds-feet of torque. The EPA hasn’t calculated the range for the Maybach yet, but Mercedes claims 372 miles on the European test; EPA ranges typically land about 20% lower than those figures, so expect a rating here right around 300 miles.

The 2024 Mercedes-Maybach EQS680 SUV is on sale now. Pricing (including $1,150 destination) starts at $181,050.
