CARS.COM — Slightly less than a month after teasing the new K900’s redesigned exterior, Kia is giving us a preview of the interior in the form of a designer’s sketch. The sketch includes light leather seating with dark leather, wood and metal trim. (We’re not accusing the artist of choosing the light leather to reduce the amount of coloring in time for the sketch, but we are proponents of working smarter, not harder.)
Kia’s goal is to create an “elegant” interior for the K900 with a “minimalist” layout that will engender a “sense of being cocooned from the outside world.” Cabin materials will include real wood, metal and leather.
Lighting and technology will also play a significant role in the cabin’s design. A 12.3-inch multimedia screen will serve as the focal point of the center console. Proximity sensors will illuminate controls as they detect a hand approaching. There are also mood lights in the cabin with 64 color options and seven themes to choose from.
It’s worth noting that the interior sketch looks an awful lot like the real and tangible interior of a Genesis G90. This is both unsurprising — the two flagship sedans will likely share platforms, powertrains and more — and good because the G90’s interior is a very nice place to be if you’re in a car.
No debut or specific on-sale date has been given, but Kia stated that the new K900 will go on sale in select markets sometime in the spring. As we noted in February, we won’t be surprised to see it show itself for the first time at the 2018 New York International Auto Show later this month.
