Coastal Migration: Ford Applies California Special Treatment to Mustang Mach-E

Key Points
- The California Special Package is now available on the 2026 Ford Mustang Mach-E.
- California Special appearance package dates to the late ‘60s
- Latest iteration debuted on 2024 Mustang GT
Ford is porting more Mustang history over to the Mustang Mach-E for the 2026 model year. The California Special appearance package that debuted in 1968 and has reappeared intermittently throughout the pony car’s history is now available for the electric SUV.

A Bold Blue
Like the current iteration that debuted on the Mustang for 2024, the electric SUV’s California Special Package is only available on the Mach-E’s GT trim level. Also like the Mustang GT California Special, it relies on blue detailing to set it apart from the rest of the lineup — although the exterior accents are far less conspicuous on the Mach-E than they are on the coupe and convertible.

Whereas the package’s trademark Rave Blue outlines the wheel spokes and grille nostrils on the Mustang coupe and convertible, the color subtly highlights the badging on the EV and adorns the illuminated pony emblem on the vehicle’s nose. Small blue GT/CS wordmarks on the wheels and a matte-gray hood decal with black and Rave Blue striping round out the exterior changes.
Inside the cabin is where the California Special distinguishes itself. Its standard sport seats are upholstered in navy-blue synthetic leather and suede, the seatbacks and bottom cushions with blue and silver stripes. Blue and silver stitching accents the seats, as well as the synthetic leather center-console and door trim.
Appropriate Output for a Mustang GT
Strictly an appearance package, the California Special makes no more power than the Mustang Mach-E GT it’s based upon. Two electric motors grant it a total of 480 horsepower, 600 pounds-feet of torque and all-wheel drive. With a 91-kilowatt-hour battery, Ford says the 2025 Mustang Mach-E GT has an EPA-estimated range of 280 miles (official EPA ratings for the 2026 model are not yet available). Buyers who want more torque can also opt for the available Performance Upgrade, which increases twist to 700 pounds-feet.
