Cars.com Releases Ranking of Best New Midsize SUVs

PRESS RELEASE

April 3, 2017

Experts from Cars.com and MotorWeek have put the current lineup of midsize SUVs through rigorous testing to determine the overall best options for car shoppers. Contenders in the Midsize SUV Challenge include the 2016 Ford Edge, 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2016 Kia Sorento and 2016 Nissan Murano.

“SUVs are the family vehicle of choice in 2016, and the midsize category is one of the most popular with shoppers,” said Patrick Olsen, Cars.com editor-in-chief. “These SUVs are large enough to carry five adults comfortably, with plenty of cargo space, but not with the fuel penalty that full-size SUVs impose. This class of vehicles remains incredibly competitive, so we want to give shoppers a clear understanding of the best, worst and each option’s value proposition.”

Testing, which included round-robin expert evaluation on a set course, a mileage drive to determine real world MPG and testing by an in-market family, resulted in the following ranking:

  • 2016 Nissan Murano
  • 2016 Ford Edge
  • 2016 Kia Sorento
  • 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport
  • 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee

“The Murano is the closest option to a luxury SUV in this group, with a level of cabin materials and styling flair that’s largely missing among the others,” said Olsen. “The Murano’s high points extend beyond its quality interior. The SUV is packed with technology and family-friendly features, and thanks to its V-6 power, the Murano is a blast to drive.”
