Two of Volkswagen’s luxury brands are issuing recalls over the threat of fire with their high-voltage batteries for two electric vehicle nameplates. Nearly 6,700 Audi RS E-Tron GTs and various flavors of Porsche Taycan, which share underlying EV architecture, are covered under two recalls issued by their respective brands.
Affected vehicles include model-year 2023 examples of the Audi E-Tron GT and RS E-Tron GT, as well as the Porsche Taycan and Taycan Cross Turismo. The high-voltage battery in these vehicles may have an insufficient amount of sealant, which can allow liquid to accumulate in the battery. Such liquid accumulation can cause electrical arcing, increasing the risk of a fire.
In both cases, dealers will test the battery for leakage and replace it, as necessary, for free. The brands will begin notifying owners Oct. 31, but those with further questions in the meantime can call Audi at 800-253-2834 (recall number 93T7), Porsche at 800-767-7243 (number APB2), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
