CARS.COM — The all-electric 2017 Volkswagen e-Golf is now officially EPA-rated for an estimated 125 miles of driving range, which is a 50 percent increase over the outgoing 2016 e-Golf thanks to a new lithium-ion battery that increases capacity from 24.2 kilowatt-hours to 35.8 kwh. Total range is right on top of the 2017 Hyundai Ioniq Electric’s 124 miles of range and more than the 2017 Nissan Leaf’s 107 miles of range, but it’s still less than the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV and its 238 miles of range.
Other updates include a more powerful electric motor making 134 horsepower and 214 pounds-feet of torque, up from 115 hp and 199 pounds-feet of torque. Charging takes less than six hours at 240 volts with a standard 7.2-kilowatt charger on SE and SEL Premium trims. When equipped with DC Fast Charging, which is optional on the SE and standard on the SEL Premium, Volkswagen says the e-Golf can be charged to 80 percent within an hour.
The 2017 e-Golf goes on sale this spring and pricing is expected closer to its on-sale date.
