Jeep is recalling more than 69,000 of its manual-transmission-equipped Wrangler SUVs and Gladiator pickup trucks over a clutch pressure plate that may overheat.
Affected vehicles include model-year 2018-23 Wranglers and model-year 2020-23 Gladiators equipped with manual transmissions. Friction may cause the clutch pressure plate to overheat and fracture, resulting in cracks or holes in the transmission case. Heated debris may be released from the damaged transmission bellhousing and cause a fire if it comes in contact with an ignition source, increasing the risk of injury both to vehicle occupants and those outside in the vicinity.
A remedy is currently under development. Owner notification letters are expected to be sent April 14, but those with further questions can contact Jeep parent automaker Stellantis at 800-853-1403 (Stellantis’ number for this recall is 19A), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
