285,000 2021 Buick, Chevrolet, GMC Vehicles Recalled for Airbag Warning Light
The latest mass automotive recall comes courtesy GM, which is seeking to fix more than 285,000 model-year 2021 sedans, sports cars and SUVs. The problem? An airbag malfunction indicator light, designed to warn the driver of an issue with the airbag.

Affected models include the Buick Envision SUV; Cadillac CT4 and CT5 sedans, and Escalade and Escalade ESV SUVs; Chevrolet Corvette sports car, and Tahoe and Suburban SUVs; and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL SUVs. The communications gateway module may incorrectly process a loss of communication with the sensing diagnostic module, which could cause the airbag malfunction indicator light to illuminate inconsistently. A failing light may not properly warn the driver of a problem with the airbag, increasing the risk of injury.
The resolution is thankfully straightforward: Dealers will update the software in the communications gateway module for free. Buick, Cadillac and Chevrolet manufacturer GM will begin notifying owners July 19, but those with further questions can call the Buick at 800-521-7300, Cadillac at 800-333-4223, Chevrolet at 800-630-2438 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
