Volkswagen gave the Tiguan a thorough refresh for 2022, and while nothing changes visually with the compact SUV for 2024, there is one significant update that deserves to grab shoppers’ attention: the addition of VW’s IQ.Drive semi-autonomous driving system as standard.

What’s New?

For 2024, the Tiguan and every other VW with an automatic transmission gets the automaker’s IQ.Drive system as standard equipment. Previously only optional on the base S trim and standard on higher trims, IQ.Drive is a semi-autonomous driving system that incorporates active lane departure steering assistance, adaptive cruise control, forward collision alert and automatic emergency braking to keep the vehicle centered in its lane and a safe distance behind the car ahead. It also keeps an eye on your blind spot and will alert you and apply corrective steering if you try to change lanes into another motorist. Additionally, IQ.Drive enables Emergency Assist, which can bring the Tiguan to a controlled stop within its lane if the driver becomes unresponsive. It activates the hazard flashers, beeps the horn, unlocks the doors, turns on the interior lights and will call VW roadside assistance.

The 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan also includes five years of complimentary services that can automatically alert VW operators if the vehicle is in a collision, share the vehicle’s location with law enforcement if it’s reported stolen and send a notification to the owner’s phone if the alarm is triggered.

The new model year also brings an auto-dimming rearview mirror, an imitation-leather-trimmed steering wheel and rain-sensing windshield wipers to the S trim. Otherwise, the Tiguan is largely unchanged.

Powertrain Specs and Pricing

The 2024 Tiguan continues to offer four trim levels: S, SE, SE R-Line Black and SEL R-Line. The sole engine offering remains a turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder rated at 184 horsepower and 211 pounds-feet of torque; it’s mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard on all but the SEL R-Line, on which all-wheel drive is standard; AWD is available for all other trims.

VW will announce full pricing for the 2024 Tiguan in the coming weeks. For now, we know only that the new standard driving-assistance features come at a cost. The 2024 Tiguan starts at $29,855 (including destination), an increase of $1,610 over the 2023 model.
