2024 Ram 1500: No Big Changes Ahead of Expected Redesign

An all-new Ram 1500 is expected for the 2025 model year, meaning 2024 might be a ripe opportunity to find a good deal on one of the best pickup trucks in its class. The Ram offers a choice between efficient and powerful engines, its segment-exclusive coil-spring rear suspension makes for a comfortable ride, and especially in the higher trim levels, its interior materials and finishes lead the full-size pickup class.

What’s New?
With the new truck on the horizon, the 2024 Ram 1500 doesn’t see many significant changes to the lineup. For the new model year, the Warlock Package returns. Available only on the four-wheel-drive Tradesman trim, the Warlock Package adds black exterior trim, a suspension raised by 1 inch and off-road gear including 33-inch Goodyear all-terrain tires, skid plates and Bilstein shock absorbers. Additionally, a Final Edition Package is available for the TRX, and a “tailgate ajar” warning light is now standard across the lineup.
Powertrain Specs and MPG
A 3.6-liter V-6 engine is standard in all Ram 1500s except the Limited and TRX; it makes 305 horsepower and 269 pounds-feet of torque. The EPA rates the Tradesman HFE at 20/26/23 mpg city/highway/combined, and other V-6 Rams are rated at 20/25/22 mpg with rear-wheel drive or 19/24/21 mpg with four-wheel drive.
The optional engine in the Ram 1500 is a 5.7-liter V-8 generating 395 hp and 410 pounds-feet of torque. The EPA says you can expect 18/23/20 mpg with a rear-drive V-8 and 18/22/19 mpg with 4WD. Both the V-8 and the V-6 are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and use a mild-hybrid system to boost fuel economy. They’re not capable of electric-only operation; the hybrid system is more there to enable stops, starts and smooth power delivery from a stop.
At the top of the Ram hierarchy sits the TRX, an off-road special aimed at the Ford F-150 Raptor R. While the TRX is expected to return in the next-generation pickup, 2024 is the last year buyers can get it with the supercharged Hellcat V-8. Making 702 hp and 650 pounds-feet of torque, the TRX returns just 10/14/12 mpg, but did we mention it is a 702-hp off-road pickup? That’s awesome.
Standard and Optional Safety Equipment
Driver-assist features are one area we expect major improvement from the upcoming Ram, as none of the widely available systems come standard on the current truck. On the Tradesman HFE, the only systems offered are blind spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert. The standard (non-HFE) Tradesman also offers lane departure steering assist, as well as forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection. A more competitive selection is available on pricier trim levels and includes a head-up display, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera system and automated parking.
Trim Levels and Pricing
Ram offers the 1500 with two cab sizes, both with four doors. The Quad Cab is the smaller and cheaper of the two, while the crew cab has a more spacious backseat accessed through larger doors. Trim levels from the Laramie on up are only available in the crew-cab configuration. Most trim levels also offer an option between two bed lengths (5 feet, 7 inches or 6 feet, 4 inches), although the Tradesman HFE only comes with the longer bed and the off-road oriented Rebel and TRX are only available with the shorter one.
The 2024 Ram 1500 is on sale now. Full pricing (including $1,995 destination) is as follows:
- Tradesman: $41,415
- Tradesman HFE: $43,055
- Big Horn/Lone Star: $46,580
- Laramie: $56,630
- Rebel: $61,295
- Limited Longhorn: $63,390
- Limited: $67,805
- TRX: $98,335
Versus the Competition
While the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and Ford F-150 can be had for less than the Ram 1500, they’re only cheaper in two-door configurations. With Chevrolet’s double cab and Ford’s Super Cab, the equivalents to Ram’s Quad Cab, the Silverado starts at $42,490 and the F-150 at $43,175 for 2024. Toyota, like Ram, only offers its full-size pickup with four doors; the Tundra bases at $41,815. The crew-cab Nissan Titan, meanwhile, starts at $47,835 (all prices include destination).
