The exterior styling of the Maybach EQS680 shares some of its core DNA with the standard EQS SUVs, but the Maybach variant adds exclusive details to help it stand out. Large 21-inch forged alloy wheels are unique to the model, and 22-inch wheels will be available after the SUV launches in the U.S.

Up front, the grille panel gets vertical chrome-plated strips that are supposed to replicate Maybach’s signature grille design, and chrome-plated filigree slats are included in the lower air intakes. Maybach lettering is integrated into a chrome strip above the grille that creates a single unit with the digital headlights’ light strip; the lights play a special light show to welcome owners and say farewell when they leave. Chrome accents extend to the sides and rear of the electric luxury SUV, with a Maybach logo on the D-pillars. The rear of the Maybach EQS680 also features a unified light bar with a two-part helix design, and the SUV gets Maybach’s signature two-tone exterior paint and a hand-painted pinstripe.

First-Class Comfort

Inside, the 2024 Maybach EQS680 has also been given a makeover with the use of high-quality materials. Nappa leather seats are standard; the leather comes from sustainable sources, and the EQS680 is the first Mercedes vehicle to use a plant-based tanning process, says the automaker. Buyers can also choose from two different natural wood accents. The EQS680 also comes with massaging seats with neck and shoulder heaters; calf massagers are available with the Executive Rear Seat Package Plus option. A 15-speaker Burmester 4D sound system is also standard.

Mercedes has also added additional sound insulation to reduce the level of noise that enters the cabin, especially for the rear passengers. The automaker has added more insulation around the electric drivetrain and made adjustments to the luggage compartment cover and the wind deflectors and seals for the panoramic moonroof.

Screens for Days

Like the EQS450 and 580 SUVs, the Maybach comes with the large Hyperscreen, which combines the instrument panel, center touchscreen and a front passenger display. The instrument cluster features rose-gold borders for the gauges, and a “Pure EV” mode replaces the gauges with a three-dimensional performance bar that conveys driving status (driving, charging and accelerating).

Rear passengers get a pair of 11.6-inch screens mounted on the backrests of the front seats; they feature the MBUX rear entertainment system, which allows passengers to share content between the two screens while also being able to select navigation destinations. Meanwhile, the MBUX Interior Assist system uses cameras to read hand and body movements to help carry out various functions, including operating the interior lighting and adjusting the climate controls.

Performance

The Maybach EQS680 uses a pair of electric motors that make a combined system output of 649 horsepower. All-wheel drive is standard. Mercedes claims the Maybach EQS680 can go up to 372 miles on a single charge under WLTP measurements; however, official EPA figures have not yet been released. Mercedes also says the SUV can fully charge in just over 30 minutes using a DC fast charger at 200 kilowatts.

Sales for the 2024 Mercedes-Maybach EQS680 are expected to begin later this year. Plan on the electric SUV’s starting price to be a bit north of the EQS580’s cost of admission; currently, the 2023 EQS580 SUV starts at $127,100 (including $1,150 destination charge).
