2024 GMC Terrain Advances at a Geological Pace

Mount Everest is growing, but it’ll be in the neighborhood of 29,030 feet for the rest of our lifetimes. For 2024, GMC’s Terrain will change, too, but at a pace similar to the Himalayan. While Everest will add about 4 millimeters of height this year, the Terrain adds two new colors (Riptide Metallic and Downpour Metallic — a bright, cheery blue and a brooding gray-blue, respectively) and wider availability of the Pro Safety Plus Package.

Performance

GMC offers the Terrain in four trim levels, all of which seat five: SLE, SLT, faux off-road AT4 and Denali. Front-wheel drive is standard on the SLE and SLT; all-wheel drive is a $1,600 option; and the AT4 and Denali are only available with AWD. Regardless of driven wheels, all Terrains are motivated by a 175-horsepower, turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine bolted to a nine-speed automatic transmission.

With FWD, the 2024 Terrain is EPA-rated 24/29/26 mpg city/highway/combined, while AWD models get 23/28/25 mpg.

Trim Levels

Standard equipment on the SLE includes keyless entry and start, cloth seats (manually adjustable in the front), automatic climate control, active noise cancellation, six speakers, a 7-inch infotainment system with Bluetooth, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, satellite radio and Wi-Fi. Outside, the SLE has 17-inch wheels and a black grille with chrome surround. GMC fits the Pro Safety Package to all Terrains; it includes lane departure steering assist and forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection.

The SLT adds an 8-inch touchscreen, leather upholstery, heated power front seats, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, remote start and ambient lighting. It also comes with 18-inch wheels, roof rails, mirrors with integrated turn signals, and chrome grille crossbars and surround.

The off-road-esque AT4 butches up with a front skid plate. It also includes more standard safety equipment: The Pro Safety Plus Package includes blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, rear parking sensors and the Safety Alert Seat, which vibrates the left, right or both sides of the bottom cushion to tell the driver where a threat is coming from. The AT4’s 17-inch wheels are painted black, and the grille crossbars and surround turn dark gray.

At the top of the line is the Denali, which rides on 19-inch wheels and a unique suspension tune. Inside, it includes navigation, a seven-speaker Bose audio system, head-up display and wireless charging. Outside, it gets a hexagonal honeycomb grille with chrome crossbars and surround, chrome door handle surrounds, body-color lower trim, and front and rear parking sensors.
